you mean like OMalley's dishonesty in going after Erhlichs flush fee to get funds for the Bay restoration
calling a tax
AND THEN Doubling that same fee/tax as soon as he was elected.
Now that is pure unadulterated dishonesty.

Wonder if they're still so lax post Snowden.... What does Snowden have to do with medical marijuana? I passed all background checks, criminal and otherwise. Pot positive is usually a no hire for most sensitive jobs. Even if your state OKs medical marihuana, if you are a Fed contractor the Feds haven't accepted it. Does smoking weed make you more likely to be unreliable? Unlikely- but it's still a sign of a more relaxed threshold of hiring.

Wonder if they're still so lax post Snowden.... Why would the Snowden incident change their drug policy? He wasn't blackmailed by a drug dealer nor was his judgement impaired by recreational drugs. Indeed, the sad thing about this country is that Snowden's revelations should have resulted in significant hedges on domestic surveillance, and it did not due to public indifference, or in a few inexplicable cases, public support for the practice. And that may have been the only chance; the greasy little peeping Toms will have closed the door to future attempts.

After Snowden you would hope they would tighten everything. Allowing pot postive peopl to work on sensitive is a lower standard. A lot of places won't even hire you to be a cashier.

The GA only decriminalized small amounts of pot. It is still not legal. It is now a misdemeanor with no jail time.

That's exactly how we can hire based on drug addiction of POT. The feds are protecting us even if MD state legalized it.

NO ONE needs to protect you, RC. You can make passing a drug test a condition of employment if you wish. Maryland will not tell you that you cannot. Hell, it probably wouldn't tell you you can't refuse to hire smokers if you want (something much more relevant - if I hired a cleaning person and they lit up in my home I'd be unhappy, and you'd be minus a client).

Oh we have workers who smoke but no one smokes on client property inside or out , that's our policy. We drug test to, but the recent MD POT dilemma had us wondering. So NO, if you test positive for any illegal substance you are not hired or you will be terminated if you're already employed.

Consult a lawyer who is an expert in human relations, because I think you're still too small to need a full time HR staffer. You need to make sure that your policies are spelled out in language that is unambiguous and legally correct. If you terminate employees, and you'll have to eventually if you haven't already had to, sooner or later one of them will get the notion to sue you for wrongful termination. Unless a lawyer tells them they've got no case. You need to put all your policies down in writing, and you need to make sure every employee - current and new - gets a copy of that. I was part of a startup a few years back. I know whereof I speak on this matter.

Heard about a guy who was running a porn site from his desk computer for the YWCA, and after termination sued to get his job back, saying that the company never told him he COULDN'T run a porn site.....
Crazy world. Should have been thrown out of court in an instant, but we live in silly times.....
