I can totally see bathroom breaks being abused. My old assistant used to take her phone in the bathroom with her so she could play games or text.

Six minutes a day seems a bit low. But certainly if people are using the bathroom as an opportunity to make telephone calls, play phone games, send texts... that's not what they're being paid to do. Set a reasonable time limit, make it a moving average (to give the guy whose lunch disagreed with him one time a break), and then dock the pay of those employees who exceed the limit.

When I was a manager at a warehouse we had people that would leave to hit the bathroom 15 minutes before break and lunch. Magically they always went right from the bathroom to their break time.

Ewww.... I guess they all meet the 6 min quota!! Oh you would be shocked to know what goes on in some housto thes being built. Some builders did not supply a port O pot, ........... I had the unfortunate experience of being checked into the wrong room at a Hyatt in DC years ago. They gave us a room where construction workers were staying that were there working on renovations in the hotel. It was disgusting. It was a mess when we walked in so I immediately knew something was wrong and I wish to this day that I didn't step foot in that bathroom. I mean who pees in the tub? And the toilet... OMG.... PIGS! ughhh.... Needless to say, we were comped for that weekend including a dinner and another free weekend.

When I moved to a chargeback dept we were told 1 hour of the 8 was ok for misc items like going to the bathroom, chatting with friends etc. EVERYONE does it so there is no denying it. So we are way over 6 minutes. Of course with all the buyouts these days we are under a new regime and they want all 8 hours to be chargable to users. HA! I still put 1 hour every day to misc items.
If you get fired can you lose stored up vacation? I would ask our HR dept but lately I don't really trust them to give me the correct answer anymore. 1. I think they may not know and 2. they are patsies for mgmt even if the do know.

Years ago there was a guy at work who when he arrived at work (usually early)he would get the urge to go to the restroom. But he would hold it until the official start time, then go relieve himself. He would never go to the restroom on his own time...

That is funny. I like it!
Why did he get there early if he could not start? Or do you just mean a few minutes.
We can start working whenever we want and leave 8.5 hours later. It isn't really official but everyone does it.

I had an employee that went to sleep several times in one, once he sat in there so long his legs fell asleep. So when I rapped on the door he fell down as he stood up landing flat on his face outside the door. It was so funny I couldn't fire him,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, that time.

It's happened on sites I've worked. The guys, usually carpenters, would just tip it over with the "sleeper" inside. Needless to say, people didn't fall alseep too often on those work sites.

I've had more than one cubicle mate who fell asleep in his cube. Snoring even! It was always dudes. One dude was resting on his space bar or keyboard and his computer was beeping for at least 5 minutes. That was so funny! I don't think any women have fallen asleep at work that I can remember. Has not happened recently though.

With my prostrate problem I could never work for those people. I need to make a pit stop at least once every 1/2 hr., sometimes more often if I treat myself to s second cup of coffee in the morning. Besides, I find it kind of creepy, people keeping tabs on how often you use the rest room.

That is not acceptable. You need to fix it.

That is not acceptable. You need to fix it. If you mean me, I've been checking all the yard sales but haven't found any used but still functional prostrates in my price range.

If you mean me, I've been checking all the yard sales but haven't found any used but still functional prostrates in my price range. Speak to your doctor, it sounds like PVP surgery could be the way to go for your prostate problem. I have. He sent me to an Urologist. There was a lot of this and that (three biopsies – OUCH! - so far, all negative) and now I take pills and they help. I've put off the surgery because, quite frankly, I'm not crazy about being cut on and, also, my new and Obamacare-approved healthcare plan means that I'd have to shell out the first $5K off the top before any benefits kick in. I should have gotten it fixed under the old pre-Obamacare plan, where it wouldn't have cost me anything but the $30.00 specialist deductible. But it wasn't as bad back then and so, like a fool, I let it ride, thinking I'd get it taken care of later. Also, I’m not certain I want to expose my prostrate to the open air and sort of spread things around, if you know what I mean. My PSA keeps going up, so I’m probably in for more biopsies. And they’re not cheap. Anyway, it’s a slow-growing cancer so it may take them a while to find it. So far so good; odds are something else will kill me before that ever does. But you’re right; I should probably get it taken care of.
