i highly recommend cherry springs state park in potter county pa for all you star gazers. it is absolutely stunning! the constellations...and especially the milky way are amazing when seen in that kind of darkness. we also had a great star gazing experience right outside the cottage we stayed at the frosty hollow b&b. great trip...sunday through wednesday of last week. it is truly wilderness and forrests up there. hundreds of camps. and...we also saw elk...a huge bull with 12 point rack...a young bull and a female...right along side of the road. everyone stops to take pics. many deer. the first pic on this site is the cottage where we stayed. very nice. big ole country breakfasts every morning. you could sit on the porch of the barn and watch the fabulous hummingbird show. i was in my glory. www.frostyhollowbandb.com/2.html

Looks like a fun place... but it's hard to find a better place to "star gaze" than right in the middle of the 40-acre hay field right across the road from my farm here in Soso, MS... we went out a couple o weeks ago and lay in the middle of the field to watch the Perseid meteor shower... the Milky Way was brilliant... stretching all the way from horizon to horizon... and some of the meteors streaked almost half way across the sky... not to mention the smell of fresh rolled hay...

It goes without saying that no one would have a better place than you for any possible use.

Casting my mind back a half century, I received a kit for making telescopes for Christmas - I think it was from Gilbert - can't say for sure. With my Father's help, I made an astronomical telescope - not much power - but it worked. We lived then in Rochester, NY - and in those days had fairly good skies even in the city.
Now, one has to travel at least a hundred miles west of Baltimore or Washington to get a good look at the sky. I've enjoyed star-watching a few miles south of Front Royal, VA.

There is plenty of star gazing, it's BEAUTIFUL. I love sitting on their deck on a clear night... it's amazing!!
