... but most of them seem not to. I ask for a sandwich prepared without mayonnaise, and I get home, and the pea-brain at the sandwich shop puts mayonnaise all over it. And people wonder why I'm cheering for the day when robots make it to the sandwich industry. Robots do what you ask 'em to!

I've said many times over the last few years... "It's hard to get good help these days"... fast food establishments just can't seem to get it right... maybe a better wage would encourage better people to apply... and allow management to weed out the riffraff...

Meh, years ago with the same wage scale, service was good in most establishments of the food fast variety. Me think tis not the salary, rather the work attitude of today; give me more even though I have no experience..........

The education industry in the country is to blame.
They turn out people without the ability to think.
Thus, in order for them to be employable these non-thinkers, must be scripted. And the script must be drilled into them to the point where if an off script issue/question arises they are completely paralyzed and unable to function.
I've experienced this many time when calling a company's customer "disservice". If their script doesn't have a response to my problem they start rumblin', stumblin' and bumblin' like the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics.

So, you think a fast food worker making what I was making when I worked at Frostop many years ago would do just as good a job today as I did then... I made $ .60 per hour... Me actually agrees with you that attitude (and a lack of work ethic) is a major problem today... kids don't learn responsibility like I did when I was growing up... everything is too easy, and handed to them... they don't work for much anymore... but I do think a better wage (and some benefits) would attract better people who cared more about their jobs who worked hard and wanted to do a better job in order to keep it... I see too many of them today who just don't seem to give a damn...

It is amazing to me how some people are just so inept. It is not just employees. I have been in owner businesses where the owner doesn't even acknowledge that someone has walked in the door. Not even a hello. I just don't understand it at all.

Our hiring issues are spread nationwide we found out after talking with other companies with the same problems In Fl, TX, CO, just as an example. The sad state of responsibility of folks needing to work is shameful. People don't want to work when the govt babysits them. Out of the last 75 applicants we actually had 5 of them show up for scheduled interviews, No call and No show.

Rent/labor/capital are the ingredients. But there is no "proper" proportion. Traditionally, we reached our level of prosperity by increasing the level of capital. Until the "reserve army of labor" shows up, there is no reason why a continuation of that tactic should not continue. My Fabian Socialist FIL used to call that process "mechanical slaves". Now I think they are referred to as robots? (Marx used the term "dead labor")

People make their own choices when they pull into a fast food joint to eat. Personally, I don't like the taste of the food so I don't eat there.
I prefer the local mom and pop establishments where you walk in and they know your name and usually even what you want to eat.

People are assuming this was a fast food place. It was not. I generally like the place, so I'm not going to bad mouth it here. Circa once a month I go there for a few "luxury items" that are hard to get elsewhere, like quality baked goods, and I also get them to make a sandwich for my lunch that day. This place caters to "upscale" customers, so you'd think they'd hire people who listen to the customer and make his food the way he asks. But in at least one case, not.

Mistakes happen. With your one and done rule soon you won't have anywhere to do business. Ever make a mistake at work?

Since it's not a fast food establishment... and is for the "upscale" folks... did you make a complaint?... they may treat you real good... And the reason some, including me, thought you were referring to a "fast food" establishment was your mention of a sandwich... and getting home with it... which makes it sound like a "fast food" take out establishment...

They would probably make it right. That's another reason I don't badmouth them here. But they are far enough away that I'd spend more in gas driving all the way back there than I'd recover in a replaced sandwich. It's why I'm only there once a month. Far simpler to no longer purchase sandwiches from them.

So you won't be ding business with them again, right? I won't by buying sandwiches from them again, no. Oh. But you will still make purchases there? I thought under your "one and done" rule they would be ruled out forever. I guess they only hire "pea brain" employees in the sandwich department?

Makes me think of Buffalo Wild Wings in Hattiesburg, MS... on 3 occasions I ordered boneless wings only to get up the Interstate a ways before finding that they were the traditional ones with bones... I hate those... twice I turned around and went back after being 5 miles north toward Laurel... they always made it good and threw in a couple of extra... Hard to get good help these days...

I've never been that picky about food myself. But I can see when I eat out that I lot of people are.
I have often wondered when some picky person who is holding up a line (and there are many, be it a fast food line, coffee line or whatever) why they just didn't eat at home more or pack a lunch, thermos, etc... or whatever it is. That way they'd always get exactly what they want. It isn't rocket science.

Subway ain't the greatest, but you tell them each thing to put on the sub and can see them doing it too. That might be the place to go if your worried about them getting it right.

So, just because someone doesn't prefer the way that particular establishment serves something means they shouldn't be able to order it to their preference. Not everyone likes everything the BK puts on a Whopper... that doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to order it the way they want it. They are spending $$$ like everyone else.
If I ever have a "special request" on an order, I always check it before I leave.
