Who's getting excited? Poll: Romney leads GOP contenders
By LUCY MCCALMONT 11/26/14 8:03 AM EST Mitt Romney continues to be the top choice of Republicans for 2016, as the party struggles to unite behind other possible contenders, a new poll shows. The former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential nominee leads the pack with 19 percent of Republicans voters’ support, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released Wednesday. Trailing Romney are former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush with 11 percent, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Dr. Ben Carson each with eight percent, and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul with 6 percent. Other potential candidates failed to gain more than 5 percent. Read more: www.politico.com/story/2014/11/poll-mitt-romney-2016-contenders-113188.html#ixzz3KBMJT6dC

Personally, I don't want the GOP to win the presidency. I would much prefer gridlock to minimize the damage by either party.

While we're at it, any thoughts on the 2017 Super Bowl?

At this point we just need to remove the Dems from office, who ever it takes You shouldn't want to remove the "Dems" from office... not the "Repubs"... when either are in the minority... such "differences" help assure that all opposing views are brought to the table and can be discussed... making it more possible to arrive at the best possible decision...

While we're at it, any thoughts on the 2017 Super Bowl? Maybe you could start a thread about it elsewhere and ask. There have been other threads about candidates for 2016 so I assumed it was an approved topic. Forgive me if I was mistaken.

Please, no. Not Romney again. The GOP has FAR too many young, talented, and experienced leaders to pick from.
Yes, Romney was a much better choice in 2012 than Obama. He's a good man, a successful man, and would have done much better than Obama has. But he had his chance and lost.
Besides, the Democrats only have the "the Republicans are nothing but a bunch of angry old white men" plank to run on. We've got too many perfectly viable candidates that aren't old white men, to put up an old white man. I'm not saying the GOP has got to run a Martinez-Haley ticket, but we DO need to run a candidate who is not at least ONE of those things. I don't care if the pick is young, female, or non-white. But we're missing an opportunity to trash the Democrats identity politics platform if we pick Romney again.
And a Martinez-Haley ticket would pretty much nuke that identity politics platform.

May not have been the very best we could have got... Congress and the President could have come up with a plan with which they could both have agreed... they didn't... so he did without them... the outcome of it is yet to be seen...

Romney, the best in 2012?... I voted for McCain in '08... I actually thought he was the best candidate... voted for Obama in '12... because I though he was the best candidate... Romney would lose even bigger against Clinton...

Gridlock can lead to Executive Orders if it goes on long enough... as it did last week... 17 months?... Gridlock is anathema only to those (special interests) who can't get their agendas and pet projects through the legislative process quickly. The Constitution itself actually fosters gridlock because the Framers didn't want to make it easy to pass or change policy. Slow and inefficient government is actually a sign that the process is working.
Every time I hear someone complain about a "do-nothing" congress, my first reaction is, "Good. Keep doing what you're not doing."

Romney, the best in 2012?... I voted for McCain in '08... I actually thought he was the best candidate... voted for Obama in '12... because I though he was the best candidate... Romney would lose even bigger against Clinton... Just a reminder: in 2012, the choice was Romney or Obama. YES. Of course Romney was the better choice. Obama was a failure in his first term, and has doubled down on that failure in his second. In order to get to a candidate that was as big a failure as Obama, the Republicans would have had to run Larry "wide stance" Craig. Obama got elected for two reasons: 1) his race, and 2) the media doesn't report honestly or fully on what he's been doing. As for Clinton, I'm not sure a bitter old white woman is the best candidate for a party that relies almost exclusively on variations on the theme that the Republicans are nothing but a bunch of bitter old white men in order to win elections. Besides, you really shouldn't even count on her running in 2014. There are plenty of good, political reasons she may opt out, and a not insignificant chance she strokes out between now and then. Honestly, if Clinton runs, Romney is the only shot the Dems have of using the "bitter old white man" meme. Against anyone else, if you want to be able to use "the Republicans are nothing but a bunch of bitter old white men" ... well, honestly I don't know who you run. I mean Warren is female, but a loony-toon, and O'Malley is young, but already stinks of failure. Either way, I'm really looking forward to Hillary Clinton talking about 'bitter old white men' while standing across the debate stage from Bobby Jindal. That's gonna be hilarious.
