This place is just Facebook for people without friends. Seriously, you live on this board seeking attention from strangers, what's the difference? Does it somehow make you feel superior to those that use Facebook to put them down? Really? You seem to spend ever waking moment moderating a board with about 15 members so you really can't judge folks that waste time on Facebook. Do you have kids? Are you married? Do you have a significant other to share the details of your life? Any of them live out of state? If so, what tools do you use to stay in touch and share a few moments every day? I agree that many, many folks share too much information on Facebook but I have found it to be a great tool to share information with the ones that I hold near and dear.

Even the ProBoards top banner will reflect my surfing habits. It's not a whole different from the information one gives away each time they swipe a store's 'bonus card". FB is what it is, a nice way to keep in contact with old friends and distant relatives. Just don't post anything that you wouldn't want the rest of the world to see.

I'm explaining why I don't use the services; it's probably possible to use the services safely if one is careful. The purpose of the article was to suggest to people who DO use the services that they need to exercise that care or face the possibility that they are revealing too much about themselves. Geez, not everything is an insult.

Facebook has done wonderful things for reuniting with old school chums and contacting family consistently.
Also has a great business venue for marketing and hiring

Facebook is also a place you can say something stupid and lose your job ..... Absolutely, I can't understand why anyone would dis their employer on any type of social media where real names and addresses are on file. I've been shocked a few times, when meeting new people in Ireland, and they say "Oh, I know all about you!". Thank goodness what they "know" about me is what Trad music videos I've recorded or landscape scenes I've photographed.

Read a story about 2 Calif. teachers who gave booze to students at a party. Of course they are in trouble, but one of the male teachers posted that the boys should have not said anything. He was going to get fired for his comments.

People never seem to believe their misdeeds will eventually out. They're almost always wrong. A kid comes home drunk, and most parents will have the name of the source within fifteen minutes. Hell, watch any cop show and see how many times criminals plead to give up other criminals in exchange for leniency. According to the people who made NYPD Blue, this was based on actual incidents.

Sorry should have said it was 2 female teachers who supplied the booze. It was a male teacher at the school who commented on Facebook and got caught.

Yes it does, but employers are being tipped off by people posting dumb things and it costing the idiots their jobs.

If he says it to a couple of friends they may become offended. Putting it on the internet for everyone to see allows anyone the opportunity to out him. Someone could post of picture of a drunken slob doing something stupid and if someone knew that person show it to his boss or employer. Companies will do anything to avoid embarrassment.

Today 2 people I know had positive experiences that shared it with friends and family. My high school buddy posted a picture with his wife and I noted that he lost a lot of weight. His response was he had gastro bypass surgery and lost 155 lbs, fantastic because his father died of a heart attack in his 50's and was overweight. My old neighbor on Indian River Bay stopped smoking after 40 years of a bad habit, today she reached a 1 month goal without a cigarette. There are positive things posted on facebook, that's what I like.
