I can't imagine an outage of long duration at facilities such as the ones mentioned. Unless it was a large outage in the transmission system.

All the important government locations have backup power - or should. Who knows with our government, they don't seem very competent at times.

They should have back up generation and multiple supplies. Preferably with some source and routing diversity.

The entire NE better get used to power outages, brownouts, and rationing, since The Puppet is destroying the grid as fast as he can, with his "war on coal".

This was from a failed support insulator on a transmission line. PEPCO took the brunt of the outages.

Evidently their periodic inspections are just like BGE's: non-existent.
After a storm downed lines, BGE once told the Maryland legislature that they were losing a lot of money because people literally couldn't buy their product. Then, in what has to be the height of unmitigated gall, they told the legislature they needed a surcharge to afford the repairs! Monopolies have no shame.

Utilities are now monopolies because the government stepped in and confiscated them. The gov saw all that lovely money that they weren't getting, and decided they 'deserved' it. Just like they have now done to the internet.

The power went out this morning in southern York County PA. I woke up at 7:45 a.m. and the power was off. I don't know when it went off, but it came back on at 8:12 a.m. Usually when the power goes off up here, it's only out for a few seconds...

Just like they have now done to the internet. They're monopolies because people didn't want several sets of delivery infrastructure cluttering the sky, nor did that make practical sense. They accepted monopoly status in exchange for government oversight. Now they don't want government oversight. All monopolies should be regulated, as there is no competitive pressure to restrain them.

No, they are monopolies because that's how the government wants it. That way, they control the energy, and the prices, and get to get all that money they were missing out on before. It was a power play, and illegal from jump, but because it's gone on so long, people accept it as "natural". And with The Puppet doing his best to destroy the grid, people, especially in the NE, are going to start feeling the pain from electing a Communist to President.

If folks wonder why TEA Partiers struggle in the election booth... this is why. No, the struggle is because the choice is always bad, or worse. The Puppet's campaign to destroy the power grid is simply proof that the government 'owns' utilities because that gives them control. The Puppet doesn't like coal, so no one will be allowed to use coal to heat their homes, or power them. The fact that there is nothing to replace it is irrelevant.
