Tavon Austin, the Dunbar kid now with the Rams, is having a field day against the Colts thus far.

The defense is playing well overall, but the offense has generated a whopping 126 yards of total offense midway into the fourth quarter. If that bears any resemblance to a Super Bowl team, then the standards have been considerably lowered.

Andy Dalton has yet to meet the receiver he couldn't overthrow.
It would be nice if the Ravens could, you know, run the ball a few times and kill the clock, but that didn't happen.

James Ihedigbo, lunkhead. But he did redeem himself in the OT.

Forget the Hail Mary at the end of regulation, the real miracle was that Ed Dickson actually caught a pass.
If the Ravens can get over their road issues next week in Chicago, then the season certainly looks brighter since they'll then play three straight games at home. The Jets figure to be an obstacle, but if the Ravens can't beat Pittsburgh and the woeful Vikings at home, then they don't deserve to make the playoffs.

If the Ravens can't get a running game going, it'll be tough to beat whoever is on the schedule.
The defense created each of the Ravens scoring opportunities today which was a blast from the past. The offense still needs to do their part, take care of the football and move it.
Neither team's offense today seemed like it wanted to win.

the holes were there today, problem, they did not stay open long, so by the time Rice or whom ever got there, they were closed....
Webb, looks like he is back to full strength, he was all over the field today. They have found a great wide out in the undrafted rookie, kid loves to hit and has strong hands.... Even so, 1.6 yards per rush is not going to win any games.
Flacco, sad to say, has something wrong with him, his deep balls all season, again today, are off. Normally that is a pass he makes all the time, one of the best deep throwers in the league before this year. I know today the wind was strong, that is what affected Dalton so much, he is not know for a very strong arm nor a crisp spiral, both needed on windy days.

Ray Rice looks done. He can't make men miss any more and has no explosiveness. Maybe he's just having an off year. But, boy, is it ever off. The offensive line woes continue; Joe was hurried most plays and sacked, what... five times? Four? The secondary got burnt but played a lot better than it has, except for one lunkheaded move.

Unless Rice finds a way to pick it up during the remaining season, I don't see him being with the team in 2014.

Trouble is, I believe the way Rice's contract is structured, he gets an equal amount of his $15 million signing bonus per annum over the five-year term. He's still owed $9 million in bonus money through 2016, so if the Ravens cut him in 2014, that money counts fully against the salary cap.

If he's a non contributor, he's still drawing that money and consuming a roster spot into the bargain. It was pretty clear Ed Reed was done last year, and the Texans still signed him. Maybe someone will trade for Ray? Perhaps fifth round pick and a case of footballs? More seriously, if he doesn't improve his play this year, they should invite him to camp but be prepared to cut him. Sad as it is, everyone's career ends eventually.

You do know that Ed Reed isn't a starter for the Texans any more, right? As much sentimental value Ed Reed has, the Ravens were quite correct in letting him explore his options.

Well, I have to say, being there at M&T for the first time was interesting. We left our seats a few minutes before the end of the 4th quarter, glad it appeared to be a Ravens win. We were standing out in front of one of the Ravens NFL Stores inside the stadium when the game became tied and went into overtime. So we hung around and waited for it to resume. That's when Tucker kicked the field goal.
I'm puzzled though. I thought I heard that new rules stated that a team could only win in overtime if it was a touchdown. Maybe that only applies in playoff.
We had great seats. We were in Row 16, so we were low and could see a lot. The field sure does look smaller in person than it does on television. It was a fun first game experience.

Under the new rule adopted last year, both teams will have the opportunity to possess the ball at least once in the extra period unless the team that receives the overtime kickoff scores a touchdown on its first possession. These are the same overtime rules that are in place for the playoffs, the only difference being that a regular season game can end in a tie if no winner is determined after 15 minutes.

Oh, okay, thanks mdrunning. I knew I had heard something about the new rule. That clears it up. I was confused because recently we were watching the Redskins game that went into overtime and a commentator stated something about the new rule and possession, but I missed it. Thanks!

If the team with first possession does something that results in a safety, that also ends the game with the other team victorious. A safety occurs when a the offensive team member with the ball is tackled in his own end zone (this is a sack if it is the quarterback), or when any of a number of infractions (typically, holding) occurs and the spot of the foul is in the end zone.

I know today the wind was strong, that is what affected Dalton so much, he is not know for a very strong arm nor a crisp spiral, both needed on windy days. I don't care how strong your arm is, you throw the ball 50 yards in the air with 30mph winds, it's going to be affected. There is nothing "wrong" with Flacco, other than the timing with his receivers has been off. For example, study the underthrow to Jacoby in the Pittsburgh game. It looks like Flacco simply underthrows a wide open player, when in fact the still frame shows Joe launching the ball before Jones is even actually open at all. Joe's arm is fine, the problem is the rythmn is completely off this year, mostly because the offense line is so porous and futile in pass protection. He's always been a rythmn type QB, and this year that has been shot to hell because of this godawful line. The defense looked great today, except, once again, in the fourth quarter, couldn't get a stop at the end of regulation. Ihedigbo had a great game, only to make one of the stupidest play I can ever recall. In the end, the Ravens were bailed out by Marvin Lewis' incredibly stupid decisions, and Joe Flacco making several excellent plays after being flushed out of the pocket. Stat lines and analysts won't tell the tale when it comes to how this game was won. The Ravens are certainly by no means a good team right now, but those ready to crown the Bengals or concede the division to them might want to take a gander at the respective schedules. The division is up for grabs again.

If I had been the Bengals, I might have elected to kick off to start the overtime period in order to get the wind advantage. The Ravens' offense was pathetic for most of the game, and the chances were good that the Bengals could have kept them out of the end zone one last time. Some very questionable decisions by Marvin Lewis, to say the least.
The division is indeed up for grabs. Cincinnati might have the most talent, but Andy Dalton has yet to demonstrate that he's anything more than average. The Ravens are on pace to set an NFL record for rushing futility, the Steelers are going nowhere, and the Browns aren't going to scare anyone with a backfield of Jason Campbell and Willis McGahee. The AFC North might not be as subpar as the NFC East, but it certainly doesn't rank among the league's premier divisions, at least not this season.

wow, left home in the 4th Qtr with us leading 17-3 and figured we had the easy win. WTF? I get to my brothers house for a BD party and learn we're in OT? I'm happy we won it but damn , end up in OT after such a lead. This needs to get fixed and now

Shouldn't wind condition be something they train for and be able to adapt to? I'm not an expert, just wondering.

The Ravens are certainly by no means a good team right now, but those ready to crown the Bengals or concede the division to them might want to take a gander at the respective schedules. The division is up for grabs again. Look, I've been the one on here who has talked about the inexperience of the receivers and the terrible line play as why the offense is struggling. Yes, timing is off a bit, and yes the wind yesterday played a roll. Nonetheless, all season long, by now the timing would be better, Joe has missed, in some cases, by many yards, deep passes. Normally as I said, he is one of the best in the NFL. Smith is still on the team, as is Jones, so timing with those two is not an issue. As for the still shot, please, of course he threw it before Jones is open at all, that is called a timing play, throwing a receiver open, expecting the receiver to be there and has, HAS to be done on deep routes. Yes, sometimes holding the ball for a millisecond longer means a completion. Even so, Joe is just off this year, it happens to quarterbacks, look around the league, aside from a few of them, a majority of the quarterbacks, some of them among the best, are having bad years so far. At this point yes the div is up for grabs, but be serious, you are what you are at this point. The Ravens are not just going to start running the ball, pass blocking better. The receivers are not just going to start breaking free from man coverage. This team is not very good this year, for a number of reasons. Oh yes the defense is good, young & good. Did you see Pees use Webb on the corner blitz? Webb didn't have a sack, you won't see any stats for the pressue he put on Dalton, but Webb was a big reason the defense was successful yesterday......
