Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is a prequel to Clancy's tales involving Jack Ryan. Some critics have panned the film, but I doubt the audience at tonight's IMAX advance screening at the White Marsh AMC theatre would agree, judging from the applause at the end of the film. Also, there was not the typical mass exodus at the end of the plot by the audience as many stayed to read the credits. We enjoyed the film. The IMAX showing didn't hurt, either, although this IMAX showing was not in 3D...
Chris Pine plays the young Jack Ryan, Keira Knightley plays his girlfriend/finance, Kevin Costner plays the CIA agent who recruits Jack, and Irish actor Kenneth Brannagh plays the bad guy. Fans of the Brit cop series Wallander should recognize Brannagh as the lead character (Swedish cop) in that series.

I think Chris Pine has a very promising career beyond Captain Kirk.

I wonder why they never made a movie based on Without Remorse.
I know that Clancy had many issues with the liberties that producers took with his work and at one time he refused to work with Hollywood any more. I think that he had a big dispute with them over the making of The Sum of All Fears and A Clear and Present Danger.
Before I went into the hospital I bought Locked On; a story about Jack Ryan's son going into the espionage business against the wishes of Jack, but I haven't started reading it yet.
