Of complications from breast cancer. She was the receptionist for Bob Newhart and his fellow doctors on "The Bob Newhart Show" and more recently the voice of long-suffering teacher Edna Krabappel on "The Simpsons".

According to "some guy" on the radio, Edna Krabappel (her Simpsons character) was NOT the character writers were planning to kill this year. What they will do now is unclear; but the production of episodes takes months, so if they've already "killed" their real target that plan won't likely change.
As they did with Troy McClure when Phil Hartman died, I hope they retire the character.

She was also a great celebrity guest on the game show circuit in the '70's (Match Game).
