Severe Weather Threatens To Bring Heavy Rain, High Wind & Isolated Tornadoes July 14, 2014 12:41 PM BALTIMORE (WJZ)– Maryland is bracing for severe weather, which could bring heavy rain, high wind and even isolated tornadoes to the region Monday. WJZ’s First Warning Weather team is monitoring the system. Meteorologist Chelsea Ingram reports we could be looking at several weather alerts as we head into the afternoon. We got a downpour and thunder, and of course the power began flickering just as soon as I put dinner on the table, so I ran into the utility room and got the battery lantern out and quickly washed the pans just in case, but the power stayed on and only went out for a minute or so. This was a very minor occurrance here. Normally it would be a 2 day outage.

Speaking of thunder boomers (which I love to watch roll in), Tatum doesn't deal with them as well in his advanced years. When I returned home from work the other day in the midst of a storm, he was nowhere to be found in the house, which nearly scared the poop out of me. Turns out he went through the doog door and was standing out in the backyard in the pouring rain.
Who knows, maybe I'm not the only gray goof who likes to watch the boomers roll in.

I feel like there's a bit too much media Weather Channel hype about the weather. I like to be informed about storms, but common sense and watching the sky can go a long way, at least if you're an intelligent person. Most of us learned as children not to play under a tree during a lightning storm but I see the reminders all the time on the weather channel. Dopes running outside to snap a selfie in a lightning storm. Have people gone mad?

It's important to warn people of severe conditions that are dangerous, they do a perfect job for that.

They are way over the top. I have had a few too many rants on here about the piss poor job the weather channel does. What a bunch of dramatic wannabes. And there is some hyperbole and weather drama on here as well. Use some common sense. It isn't like we live in an area that experiences any extremes of weather events on a frequent basis. We get an occasional big snow, a rare tornado, and a tropical blow from time to time. Not to trivialize any damage to people or property from these events but we are in pretty good shape weather wise compared to other places. Surprise surprise, we had thunderstorm in July.

Have people gone mad? 40 years ago I was standing on the beach in o.c. as the eye of a hurricane camel thru when I noticed a guy stumble up the beach out of the surf. I went up to him and mentioned that it probably wasn't a good time to be swimming. He said, "We weren't swimming-we were fishing and my two friends are still out there". People have been doing stupid things.....well, for as long as there have been people. I still want jim cantori's (sp) job tho.

tell that to the folks with roofs torn off, trees on cars, etc, I said in my post that I wasn't trying trivialize damage to people or property. Yes, even just one instance of roofs torn off or a tree on an automobile is a horrible for those affected but I haven't heard about much damage as you describe from our recent storms. More hype than reality. I surely hope you weren't hiding during the recent round of storms. It really wasn't that bad. Face it, as I posted before we just don't get gloom and doom events around here on a frequent basis.

Less than a block away, the storm two weeks ago knocked over big trees which fell on the roofs of three houses. Fortunately no one was injured that I know of. One house required the complete rebuilding (roof rafters, sheathing, shingles) of the whole roof. It appears the new roof framing is much heavier (i.e., stronger) than the original roof structure. I've heard chain saws running every day since the storm.

The Weather Channel is run by hysterics. Everything's an event with them because they're trying to generate impressions.
Try 'intellicast.com'. So far, they give you the facts without the emotion.
