That employer offers you healthcare coverage of their own volition. There's no law compelling any employer to offer a benefits package of any type. (And yes, I realize that the lovely ACA now imposes penalties on employers under certain conditions.) Employer-based healthcare is a benefit, not an inalienable right.
Don't offer the insurance if you are going to be a dick about it and cherry pick through it. Not sure what your point is, because we are talking about Hobby Lobby and they have it in their benefit package. HuffPo may have neglected to mention this, but if a woman started working for Hobby Lobby tomorrow, here's the cherry-picked benefits she would receive. For the record, it includes access, copay-free, to the following categories of FDA-approved birth-control: 1. Male condoms 2. Female condoms 3. Diaphragms with spermicide 4. Sponges with spermicide 5. Cervical caps with spermicide 6. Spermicide alone 7. Birth-control pills with estrogen and progestin (“Combined Pill) 8. Birth-control pills with progestin alone (“The Mini Pill) 9. Birth control pills (extended/continuous use) 10. Contraceptive patches 11. Contraceptive rings 12. Progestin injections 13. Implantable rods 14. Vasectomies 15. Female sterilization surgeries 16. Female sterilization implants
Hard to believe, isn't it? Hobby Lobby actually pays for 16 different types of contraceptives for its female employees. And just for the sake of balance, here are the four types of contraceptives they will not cover:
a. Plan B (“The Morning After Pill”) b. Ella (a similar type of “emergency contraception”) c. Copper Intra-Uterine Device d. IUD with progestin
What Hobby Lobby does not do, however, is prohibit female employees from availing themselves of any of the above. They simply will not pay for it. The way some people (you, for example) are carrying on, you'd think Hobby Lobby forces its female employees to wear chastity belts or burqas.

Well a talking grocery cart would be smarter than either of the Obamas. I certainly think this is a dumb idea for Mrs. Obama to support. Meh, she counts for anything?

Why would you think I am opposed to the ACA? I sure do oppose my employer cherry picking through my health care though. The ACA forces your employer to become the manager of your health care. (whether they wish to or not!) Apparently your government is not confident that you are capable of such complex and important (and personal?) decision making. As for the "cherry picking", just be grateful your government does not compel your employer to feed you! Would you really expect your Muslim employer to feed you pulled pork sandwiches? Geez, no idea how you are employed but employers cherry pick EVERYTHING. Their employees, their suppliers, even their customers. Yes, they cherry pick the insurance they purchase. So, my question sorta meant that maybe you might be in the camp that would prefer government to exit the "forcing employers to provide". And become a grown up? Folk capable of feeding themselves and providing their own housing are likely able to provide their own health care. Some aren't and must be husbanded. You seem capable, hence my question.

There is a wonderful free app for smart phones called Fooducate. You scan the SKU of a product and it will return a nutritional rating for that product. Many times it will also give the consumer a number of more nutritious options. Best of all it is free.
Being a weightlifter for the last 25 years has made nutritional education a priority. It is a constant process to keep updated with the latest information. I can fully understand Ms. Obama's statement about knowing how to feed one's children. Injected hormones, antibiotics, yellow dye 5, aparatame, farm raised, potassium bromate, azodicarbonamide, BPA,olestra, etc. Smart carts are not the answer, but a FDA/USDA which is more stringent in it's approval of chemicals and additives would be an improvement.

Sounds like a good app. Can you setup your requirements (say no bromate, azodicarbonamide...) and have it just flash you a green light/red light if the product isn't within your guidelines? If not that would be a neat feature, or a percentage towards your guidelines. I shop the outskirts of the store, and other than additives like pesticides there isn't much to scan. Do they have SKU's for meat? I think the problem is that Michelle wants to mandate this feature for everyone, when everyone doesn't have a problem with eating relatively healthily, and those who eat unhealthy will not change their ways by a cart, or even an app, they have to want to change.

My free app does not go that deep, although there is a premium app. It's a good idea, but I think if one entered any of those chemicals it might just overload the phone with results. Fooducate does recognize some fresh meats, but only about 40% of them. One cannot mandate the public to eat healthy. The one contention I have is that there are many additives which are banned in Europe and Canada, but are available in the US. It was only a few years ago that I learned that the mac n cheese I was giving my boy could have the potentially dangerous yellow dye 5. In that respect, I understand the point that Michele is attempting to make about not feeding her kids correctly. Those folks that accuse her of being an idiot for that statement probably don't have a clue about being a busy working parent or would know that it actually takes time to learn nutrition and prepare quality meals.

like the hunky dory government run website is? I guess you have severe short term memory loss, this wasn't the only government run website that had a poor roll out..... proves the government maybe ought to stay out of website business or learn how to do it properly

It takes months to get hired by the government. It can't compete for talent who can get hired much more quickly almost anywhere else. So the people it has are there because they (1) have a desire to work for the government - it does offer some nice benefits, and there are people who wish to serve their country in this way, or (2) aren't good enough to get work elsewhere. Guess which most of them are?

I know. If Michelle does not wish to be mocked, she should not do things worthy of mockery. As Charlie Eckman would say, "Very simple game." She's not an elected official, not sure why she is important, I guess. But she's driving the subsumation of the nation's schools, and trying to subsume the nations diet, through her use of the FDA and the Dept Ed. So, if she's not an elected official, why is anyone bothering to listen to her, much less do what she says?

Why do we know everything Laura Bush did, from the time she was in diapers, but don't even know whether Michelle graduated from college? Or her husband, The Puppet?

The whole idea is dumb. We do not need more nanny laws. Except when it is your employer choosing your Heath care, then it is all hunky dory...... If the employer is paying for your insurance, you get what he wants to pay for. Don't like it? Buy your own insurance.

What Hobby Lobby does not do, however, is prohibit female employees from availing themselves of any of the above. They simply will not pay for it. The way some people (you, for example) are carrying on, you'd think Hobby Lobby forces its female employees to wear chastity belts or burqas.
I am guessing if your employer benefit medical insurance refused to pay for a certain medical treatment such as a blood transfusion that you desperately needed citing their religion you would be perfectly fine with that. Slippery slope.......
