We enjoyed having him visit as well, because that meant he was there and not here.
The only statistic Martin O'Malley understands is spelled T-A-X. It can't even rain for free anymore up here in the (excuse the expression) Free State.
I still remember a few years back just after O'Malley called a special session of the legislature together to address funding shortfalls. The legislature raised the sales tax by 20%. O'Malley boasted that they'd lowered taxes for 95% of Marylanders. And he said it with a straight face... So you can keep him, and I hope he "lowers" your taxes, too. Maybe he'll even give you the privilege of paying a tax on the rain... (I'm not kidding.) Let's be honest here, Aponderer... Maryland's SALES TAX tax is only $ .06... ours is $ .07... (and we're a much poorer state than Maryland... with Republicans in all but one state office... and a majority in both legislative bodies)... yours was raised by ONE PENNY to amount to that that 20% increase on SALES TAX... the last time ours was raised, it was raised by only ONE PENNY as well... but that amounted to only a 16.6% increase in our SALES TAX... your 20% SALES TAX increase of only ONE PENNY, combined with many other taxes around the state could very well have resulted in lowered taxes for 95% of Marylanders... (I haven't dug into it)... and I can say that with a straight face as well... My SALES TAXES here have gone up by 16.6% here over the last few tears... but other taxes have certainly gone down... I haven't dug into the overall rate when considering ALL state taxes... Our state does have reduced sales tax on certain items... and a 9% rate of food consumed on the spot at eating places like restaurants...

O'Malley could take any of you in a fight. We'll never know. Like most government folks he surrounds himself with hired lackeys packing heat. He only bullies with his political powers, so the dirty work is left to the hired help. Even when I was a kid, I'd much rather have my ass whipped... than given a talking from mom or dad...

Some democrats, looking for alternatives to Hillary Clinton, may consider him. It's been already established that many voters are easily duped by beautiful speeches with no substance and no follow-through. Appearance too... who's gonna vote for Hillary in that orange pantsuit... just folks in Syracuse?... Clemson?... maybe Knoxville?...

Has he decided to run for president yet? He loves to raise taxes. Yeah... looks like he went along with the General Assembly there... the GA you elected... and raised your sales taxes by a penny... Save a Lincoln when you visit Maryland... you may need it because of O'Malley...

I didn't go last night... but I have met him previously... and that "admiration" was not from me... it was from someone that had not met him previously... Please share your opinion of marty. Obviously you have some history. I don't have a strong opinion of O'Malley... only heard and met him a couple of times... if it looks like he's gonna run for the Democrat nomination in '16, you can bet your ass I'll know much more about him then than I do now... and I won't ask anyone here...

Enjoyed having your governor visit with us here n Mississippi last night... he was a big hit... here's one comment with regard to his visit: "One of the best Keynote Speakers I can ever remember. Love Gov. O'Malley's approach to problem solving, which appears to statistically result in positive results."Thanks... Positive results? Such as? You'd have to ask the maker of that comment where he/she got his/her information... I don't know who it was or where the information was obtained... I simply passed the complimentary comment along... I didn't hear ANY bad comments... of course, you know he was speaking to a bunch of Democrats...

Judging by the histrionics on display by the righties here and from the insults that they are flinging around, I'm guessing that this Martin O'Malley is a bit of a liberal, right? BE, I know we don't agree on a lot of issues, but this guy exists only in that state to the left of liberal... No shyte Sherlock! You could have fooled me.

His "record" is public for ALL to see...

That was exactly the argument of those who favored the 20% increase (most of the Democrats in the General Assembly). The point is not what MS's sales tax rate is, but the fact that O'Malley boasted that 95% of Marylanders' taxes were lowered by the legislation of that special session--which was a lie. But beings you brought up taxes in MS, does MS tax landowners (both business and homeowners) for the rain that falls on their property? MD does. But there's no need to get into a pissing contest as to which state (MD or MS) taxes its citizens more... MDers get taxed more.

If you focus on only one aspect of his term in office like you focused on only one of the many ways he bilks the taxpayers of MD you'll probably end up elevating him to Messiah and dropping The Leader down to St. Pete.

"Only a penny" was a good campaign slogan... ours was raised three pennies... and I did not hear O'Malley's comments and will just have to take your word as to what you think or believe he meant... I don't know what he meant... maybe you care enough to look it up .. I don't...

Well, AW, we're certainly glad you enjoyed our venerable Governor down there in Mississippi. And the next time your first one hundred or so choices for keynote speaker all have previous engagements, we'll be happy to send him your way again.

I suggested that Aponderer look into more details with regard to it... I'm not gonna take the time... Obviously, your name calling of O'Malley demonstrates your negative feelings toward him very well... I'm sure you know him much better than I do...

As I said, I personally didn't take the opportunity to enjoy him... seems that the many others did... and I don't know just who chose him to be the keynote speaker... but my good friend, Rickey Cole, state Democratic head, might have been the one... he seemed to enjoy O'Malley very much... and if Rickey enjoyed him... I'm bettin' he was enjoyable...

There are polls (I know, take what you will from them) that demonstrate O'Malley is a little too left leaning for the general population, and even in Maryland. His track record might serve him well in a primary (unless Hillary runs, then all bets are off), but could come back to bite him in the proverbial arse should he ever make it to a general election.
O'Malley abolished the death penalty here, even though a majority of Marylanders still support it, according to Gallup. The gas tax will increase from 23.5 cents per gallon to 44.6 by 2018. (Smart move, Marty, you'll be out of office by then.) Taxes on cigarettes increased from $1 to $2, which is a bit of irony since sin taxes almost always impact lower income folks the most. All told, there have been 32 new or increased taxes in Maryland since O'Malley took office. Public opinion of him in the White House is mixed, with only 17 percent of voters here saying they would definitely vote for him, as opposed to 40 percent who said they definitely would not.
O'Malley's only chance in 2016 is to try and shore up his liberal bona fides by swinging to the left of Hillary. There's little or no consequence when you do that in Maryland, but there likely could be on a broader stage. He'll actually have to defend his policies in a general election.

I can't imagine O'Malley's ego allowing him to settle for a job that isn't worth a pitcher of warm spit. He's too politically ambitious, which is one reason why he scares the hell out of me.

Who are the "taxpayers" he could be talking about? And why do blacks and other minorities go to the Democrat party again?
