Gas was $2.97 (at our Safeway) but I used my debit card and a $1.00/off per gallon discount. Final price paid was $1.87 a gallon. Woo-hoo!

I would think our homeland oil costs would be cheaper, no import costs. It's more difficult to get at it. Also, the oil companies support high prices by closing refineries attempting to match supply with demand, as good oligopolists do. One of the problems with the Keystone pipeline is that refineries around the South Texas/Louisiana area would take that "heavy oil" and refine it into diesel... destined for China... which would result in reduced capacity to refine domestic gasoline... likely resulting in higher gasoline prices at the pump for us... Many refineries are closing down simply because they aren't making $$$... abarrelfull.wikidot.com/blog:why-are-refineries-closing-down

I don't know of any refineries that have closed... other than for maintenance... but one of the problems with the Keystone pipeline is that refineries around the South Texas/Louisiana area would take that "heavy oil" and refine it into diesel... destined for China... which would result in reduced capacity to refine domestic gasoline... likely resulting in higher gasoline prices at the pump for us... I don't either. As I understand it the refinery end of the business does well with low crude prices! When crude was at $140 the refineries were sucking air. The vertically integrated companies such as Chevron and Mobil are making good profits right now. Yes, all 'oil' is not equal. Refiners must exploit the grade of oil they have to work with. Everyone does not have Brent oil or west Texas light. And the world Needs bunker C and diesel.

I was just not aware of them...

The Constitutional Amendment requiring the state government to spend the transportation money only on transportation projects passed. O'Malley never opposed it, which probably says it's full of loopholes (could also be he kept a low profile and allowed Brown to run his campaign without the possibility of harm inflicted by unpopular O'Malley decisions).

Ok, not having read the bill as passed, I'm sure it has a few loopholes. However I've been wishing for this referendum for a long time, and I'm happy that it passed.

Still $ 2.02 here this AM... it's $ 1.92 just north of here in Meridian, Mississippi...
People here are actually complaining about the lower gasoline prices... we here in South Mississippi are not only a part of "The Bible Belt"... but we are also, along with Louisiana and South Texas, a part of "The Oil Patch"... lot of offshore oil workers here...

$ 1.89 here in Laurel, MS today... $ 1.73 just 26 miles south in Hattiesburg, MS...
Would you believe $ 1.47 in Texas... with the maximum Kroger fuel points, that would be $ .47 per gallon... can you believe $ .47 per gallon gasoline?...
GOBAMA...
