Murders and non-fatal shootings are significantly up; this has been reported numerous local places. It has also been reported that the police are understandably hesitant to do their job in the worst neighborhoods, since they now regard Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Marilyn Mosby as their enemies. That may not be justified if the six charged officers actually did precipitate Gray's death, but convincing the rest of the force of this will take time. And until the city can do it, there's going to be more violence. Fire them? Sure. Most of them will be hired in a surrounding jurisdiction within the week, forcing the city to expend money training new officers. That also takes time. And a department whose patrollers are mostly green will make a lot of mistakes. The city's in a rough spot right now and only time will fix it, to the extend it can be fixed. This should be expected... as rioting and looting may be down, tempers are still up regardless of what the police do... and I'm not so sure you're right about Rawlings,... she likely saved several police officer's lives during the riots... but Mosby?... damn straight... I think you're right on target there... the policemen should be weary of her... Where can I find those reports stating that the Baltimore City police are hesitant to do their jobs because Rawlings and Mosby are their enemies... I can't find them... or, is that simply your opinion?... Likely, police in Hattiesburg, Mississippi are also " understandably hesitant to do their job in the worst neighborhoods" since 2 Hattiesburg police officers were slain there in one of Hattiesburg's worst neighborhoods a couple of weeks ago... and they have the full support of the Hattiesburg mayor...

4 to 9 shootings per day?... maybe... but murders?... no... (and I know you didn't say there was)... but as of last week, Baltimore had had 188 murders this year... for an average of just over 1.3 per day... This year in Baltimore, both murders and shootings are down compared to the same time last year, according to the latest police statistics. As of Monday morning, 188 people have been slain in the city and non-fatal shootings were down about 12 percent. Baltimore Sun And how long did the riots last?... one night?... Not sure about your link? I'm certain you are correct (since you always are) but all my info says murders are up and non lethal shootings are WAY up. data.baltimoresun.com/bing-maps/homicides/My apologies... my information came from a piece in the Baltimore Sun dated Sunday May 24, 2015 but was a piece reprinted from November 10, 2014... that explains the difference in the numbers which did seem not to add up... don'[t know why the piece was reprinted unless it was to show that Baltimore City had moved up in the murder rate from #6 to #5 due to places like Flint, MI dropping below the 100,000 population mark... Cities with higher murder rates (than Baltimore) were Detroit (45.2), New Orleans (41.4), Newark (40.3), and St. Louis (37.7). Both Detroit (54.6 in 2012) and New Orleans (53.2 in 2012) saw sharp declines.
Chicago, which has been billed as the country's "murder capital," had 414 murders for a rate of 15.2 - same rate as Tulsa, Okla. www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/crime/blog/bal-new-fbi-statistics-baltimore-no-5-in-murder-rate-20141110-story.html

Where can I find those reports stating that the Baltimore City police are hesitant to do their jobs because Rawlings and Mosby are their enemies... I can't find them... or, is that simply your opinion?... This was an unfortunately constructed sentence on my part. There have been reports on local news channels that arrests are down. I speculated that the reason is police resentment. Hope that clarifies it.

I "think" Rawlings meant something other than what came out of her mouth as well...

I don't know... were I a resident of Baltimore City, I'd be sympathetic to the police department and view the "dysfunctionals" as racists and a threat to the citizenry of the city... and I'd be right...

Not always... but almost always right 99% of the time... Now where have I heard that?... Good for you. It's comforting to have an infallible on this board. Must be painful for you to deal with us limited souls who seem to be seldom correct. Quite a burden for you eh?

I mentioned this nearly 2 weeks ago on the "Hogan thread"... ... and someone here said the governor couldn't do that... obviously, he did... Not sure what the reference to Hogan is? If you mean the juvenile facility that responsibility has been foisted upon the State by the inability of Baltimore to support itself. Baltimore is a "pretend" city. Most government functions are paid for and managed by the State; Jails, schools, library system, the stadia, the zoo, the library system, the transit system, etc.
