He's had a great career. He still has the knowledge, but his body just can't handle the punishment any more. He needs to stay on as a qback coach, maybe 3rd string QB, finish out his contract, and retire.

Unfortunately I think the time has come for him to retire. I've always enjoyed watching him play, even in college. I love his commercials.... maybe there's some acting in his future!!

Because I put it there... there is no fitting description under the "Sports" banners... or "The Hangout"... you got a better suggestion?...
And Peyton Manning is pretty much a national figure...

I have moved this thread to the Ravens board. While Manning is a national figure in some sense, he is a chiefly a football player now, so that is where the thread belongs. As the forum header reads: "Come to the sideline to take about the Ravens or other football related stuff." Thanks.

Who's gonna look under "Ravens" for a story about Brett Favre and Bart Starr greeting each other at at Lambeau... or Peyton Manning considering retirement after one of the most successful careers in the NFL...
But the control of the button IS yours...

IS IT TIME FOR MANNING TO GO? I assume you meant to the Superbowl!

He made it to the Superbowl. But to paraphrase Admiral Painter from "The Hunt for Red October" - he's gonna die within sight of it! While it's true that Denver has a far better defense than the Cards, this appears to be Cam's year. I don't see the Broncos stopping that juggernaut. Panthers win by 10. Manning's signed for one more year, and I'm sure he'll come to training camp. Kubiak might then have a difficult decision to make.

Manning is starting to remind me of Unitas: the mind is still willing but the body just can't respond like it used to. I think the Super Bowl will be his last game, at least in a Denver uniform. He carries a $21 million cap hit next season, and that's just far too much for a 40-year-old quarterback who has lost about a yard off his fastball.
I'd like to see Manning go out with another ring, but I don't know if Denver can handle Carolina. Either way, Manning's a first-ballot Hall of Famer who will take his place among the greatest ever to play the position.

As I said, his cap hit for next season is scheduled to be some $21 million against only about $2.5 million in dead cap should Denver release him. Osweiler is a free agent after this season, and while he hasn't demonstrated that he's the heir-apparent, Denver has little choice but to pony up and find out.
They'll also need cap space if they try and retain Von Miller, who is undoubtedly due for a huge payday wherever he ultimately winds up.

Yes... yes, it is!Peyton Manning is set to announce his retirement as an active player tomorrow (3/7). Color men and studio commentators are quaking with fear, since Manning can have one of those jobs for the asking. Or perhaps some producer is even now getting together a team to build a new franchise around him! Whatever is next for him, we all know where he will be in August of 2021.

Manning showed class in his retirement speech spotlighting Johnny Unitas as the greatest Quarterback to play the game.
