This thread exists for the purpose of discussing coaching and other front office changes teams will make.
1. Eagles fired Chip Kelly for refusing to cede certain powers GMs typically possess. This firing appears deserved, considering the headscratching moves he made.
2. Browns appear likely for fire their GM, but leave Pettine in place. Pettine, for his part, promises he will fire associates if he is not fired himself.
3. Pagano and the Colts appear likely to part company.

The relationship between Pagano and Colt GM Ryan Grigson has reportedly reached the "toxic" stage. I know there are people clamoring for the Ravens to bring him back to replace Pees, but Pagano was 11-5 in each of his first three seasons with the Colts. A guy with a .623 winning percentage is bound to be on someone's short list for a head coaching job.

I'm more interested in the "replace Pees" than in who with, at this point, since my opinion is that it's hard to go anywhere but up. I understand you disagree. Another one I'd like to see canned is OL coach Castillo. What saves Castillo is the large number of OL injuries, which he and Harbaugh will convince themselves are the reason for the OL's regression this year.
If Pagano did come here, he would be a rental. Even if no one wants him as a head coach in '16, someone certainly will be willing to try him in '17.

Rumor: Coughlin will retire, resign, or be fired (probably the first one) tomorrow.
Chip Kelly linked to 49ers, Browns (which would contradict early reports that said Pettine was safe).

The Browns clean house more than Merry Maids. Pettine is the fourth in a row head coach who failed to make it to a third season. His predecessor Chudzinski only lasted one season. Evidently Haslem has placed some lawyer in charge of the roster and hired a talent search company to help him, his wife (!) and the aforementioned lawyer find a head coach. So, another terrible Cleveland Browns season ahead!

Jim Tomsula out in San Francisco. Evidently someone's taking lessons from the Haslem Institute of Team Stability.

Sean Peyton has been mentioned as a possible successor should he part ways with New Orleans. I wonder if Peyton seems the light at the end of the Brees career, and wants to get out ahead of the bad years where they're looking for his successor. Supposedly they were planning for life after Brees starting a couple years ago, but I don't know what actual steps they've taken. I don't have much use for Peyton; they can have him on the left coast. Men who run, or allow others to run, injury bounty schemes disgust me.

Scuttlebutt on radio that philly may throw Trump money at harbaugh to come be head coach.
Ozzie says no way will harbs be allowed out of 2 years left on contract.
Plus, is harbs even interested?

That's coming from Philly sportscasters. I suppose if Bis fired him he could end up there, but I doubt that's going to happen. And it does not matter how much money the Eagles throw: the Ravens are not obligated to let him out of his contract. This is commonly done if the move is a promotion, as coordinator to head coach, for a number of reasons. But for a lateral move, Philly would have to come to some kind of arrangement with the Ravens. A player, or cash, or something.

My brother reports that the Colts have signed Pagano to an extension. That comes as a surprise to me.

Harbaugh was an assistant in Philadelphia for 10 years, so there are some ties in that regard. I doubt if Harbaugh even interviews for the job. Wish lists tend to be long in the initial stages of a coaching search.

If Harbaugh actually wants to go up there, Bis would be wise to permit it. You don't want a guy working for you who would rather be working elsewhere. But he should ask the Eagles for cash. They would probably pay it.
Duquette wanted to go north (to Toronto) last year, and because he thought he *was* going north, he did little for the Orioles in the off-season. Then Toronto refused Angelos' request (rumored to be a prospect or cash or both), and Angelos chained Duquette to his desk. The result was a team with a few stars, glued together with Z-grade leftovers, many of whom were optioned by midyear. Canny observers should understand that if one runs a team too much like a lawyer and not enough like a businessman, disaster is certain.

My brother reports that the Colts have signed Pagano to an extension. That comes as a surprise to me. I don't quite understand that either, particularly since the Colts retained Ryan Grigson as GM. He and Pagano reportedly can't stand each other, and I doubt if they co-exist for four more years.

Eagles interviewing Coughlin for their open billet. Which tells us about his Giants situation: some may fall, but others are pushed.

The Browns appear to have done something right for a change. The question is, will Jackson be given the requisite time to try and build a winning team, or will he be unceremoniously shown the door sooner rather than later? Browns coaches tend to last about as long as bananas on window sills.

Oh, he's a good choice and a good coach. I just don't expect him to have any more success than anyone else does out there, and it mystifies my why he'd want that job, *especially* since didn't he work for the Raiders when they were dysfunctional? I seem to recall that's where he went when he left here.
