Be aware that Microsoft has changed the status of the Windows 10 upgrade to "recommended". If you install updates automatically, you may receive the upgrade whether you ask for it or not. Article

This and the new CPUs supported only with Windows 10 crap are reasons I hope a class action lawsuit occurs.

Running 8 with no issues, have no plans to update til next pc replacement It doesn't matter what you plan. If you're not careful, you may find windows 10 installed on your computer. That's the controversy.

I never allow Windows to update itself without telling me what it wants to do and why. I suggest changing that setting.
I generally don't upgrade the operating system during the lifetime of a box becuase, why? It's just a huge pain in the ass for no real gain, from my perspective. I used to do that - and then would run into problems like programs I liked (shareware, usually) that were incompatible, and now I had to get the new version if one was even available.
Since even numbered Microsoft offerings (Vista, 8) usually violate the laws of physics by sucking and blowing at the same time (thanks, Bart Simpson!), I stay away from them, as well, if I can avoid it.

If you have a newer pc or laptop you shouldn't fear upgrading to 10. Ten took a lot of the good of 7 and what little of 8 that was good and mixed them together. I actually like 10 and would like to put it on a pc to run but all mine are too old and 10 doesn't support the cpu in them so they are not upgradeable. I do understand why some people don't want it pushed on them though. It should be a choice if you want it or not. Part of the reason is the money aspect of it. The sooner they get most of the people on it they can cease supporting Windows 7 and 8 like they've done with XP.
