Windows 10 Home edition will be on what's called the Current Branch by Microsoft. People on the Current Branch get updates - new features, security patches, and most problematic, drivers - whether they want them or not. There is, for business users, the Current Branch for Business, whose users can defer updates - but not indefinitely. ArticleThe problem Microsoft is trying to solve is people who never apply security patches to their system, or who do so haphazardly. Those systems remain vulnerable to malware, chiefly botnets, which then attempt to attack other systems, degrading the Internet as a whole. It's a laudable goal, but Microsoft has a terrible track record of releasing buggy updates, or updates that don't work on all PCs (since there are so many configurations, this is probably unavoidable). IMO, they need to *first* establish a better track record for releasing high quality updates, and *then* think about forcing their updates on folks. The good news is: if you by Windows 10 Pro, you can get on the Current Branch for Business and defer your updates. But in order to exercise complete control, you need the Enterprise edition, minimum 10 seats. It's certain that within a few months of the final version dropping, someone will have figured out how to defeat this and posted that information. Keep your eyes open!

I stuck with W7 Pro on my new Cyberpower PC I just got a few weeks ago. No reason to Pay for any AV suite unless you're just Lazy. I run Panda Free & Malwarebytes once a week. rarely find anything that has to be cleaned. Used to run AVG Free but didn't care for their interface. Tried Avast Free but got tired of their pop-ups so I went back to Panda Free. I haven't been hit with a Virus since Sasser32 way back in the late 90's on a W98 machine I had once. Stupid McAfee that I paid for didn't catch it. Had Norton for a while way back but we all know how much Norton is a System Hog so I'll never use them again. I got one browser hijacker a couple years ago on one of my laptops but that was pretty much my own fault not looking at all the check boxes before I installed one program I downloaded and did an Express install. IDIOT! I cleaned that up with a trial HitMan download that I deleted after I used it. If you're just a little careful, most people never have a problem.

Windows XP still on the main computer; I just haven't had time to upgrade (it will happen when I replace the motherboard/processor-3 years overdue). I'm now thinking a linux os running a bunch of virtual machines. 1 with my current XP installation. 1 with the latest windows. And anything that can run native to linux to do so.
I have a laptop with Windows 10 on it; it has bumped me off to reboot before and I don't appreciate it.
