What does the $162 cover? Do they apply any sliding scale based on income? $162 is for exam, xrays and a simple extraction. I lost a filling so I dont know if that would be more or less. Also, it is first come first serve. Cant make appts. Didnt see anything about sliding scale

Didnt see anything about sliding scale That isn't bad for what it covers but it is still expensive. I know in the past, many private dentists would allow their patients to pay in installments (I've avoided the dentist for a long time!); that might be an option to explore. There is also the Oral Resource Health Guide in Maryland that goes over the different discount dental programs in each of the counties. phpa.dhmh.maryland.gov/oralhealth/Documents/OralHealthResourceGuide.pdf.

Dental insurance worth having is very difficult to find these days, so says my dentist. I have a simple plan that saves me a little bit on the routine stuff, but if I ever need anything big done, I'm uninsured. (I have to buy my insurance myself because I don't work for a company - one of the big barriers to small business is the fact that prices for insurance are not standardized based on coverage/risk, IMO). I looked into the dental school, but I just can't take a whole day even as little as twice a year for that. microg: if you take good care of your teeth (brush twice daily, floss once daily) you may be able to escape problems for a long time. But it will eventually catch up to you. And in addition to hidden tooth problems, you need to keep in mind your gums can fail, and you can lose otherwise healthy teeth to that. I recommend you get looked at by a dentist. Learn from my mistakes.

My buddy is a dentist. He's living proof that the barter system is alive and well.
