Ravens win 13-7
Line penalties were bad but Joe and defense looked excellent

They got a lot of help from Rex's tendency to coach teams to try and get away with stuff, and the fact that Brad Allen's crew caught much of it. The defense looked okay, but Jimmy Smith looks done. Joe spread out his passes and made some nice completions. Forsett looked like he can still run a little bit but the other RBs were much less effective. Suggs looks like he remade himself.
Overall, I'd call it a promising first appearance.

The two biggest concerns were the offensive line play and a push rush which was spotty, at best. Flacco was sacked four times, even though the Ravens didn't throw deep very often, and Tyrod Taylor oftentimes had a calendar year to throw the ball. Despite inconsistent pass pressure, the Raven secondary was very good for the most part. Flacco looked good initially, but he also threw a number of balls flat-footed and didn't even seem inclined to try and run out of the pocket. That's a normal response to a knee injury, I'd imagine.
The biggest thing to take out of this game, however, is the Ravens suffered no injuries. It's always good to come out of the first game fully healthy.

They didn't have a pass rush last year, and then didn't address it in the off-season, so I wasn't expecting much there. It's true that Suggs is back, and he looked a lot better than he has, but he's still on the wrong side of 30. He needs help, and hopefully he and Dumervil can feed off each other in the future. That's a need they are going to have to address. That did give Taylor a long time to throw, but some of that was Taylor's mobility. And there was at least one fairly blatant hold that went uncalled.
After the game Tyrod said the Ravens defense showed them things they hadn't seen, which is an improvement over last year's rather vanilla scheming.
Unless Jimmy Smith improves *a lot* they are going to be manhandled by a team that throws deep.

They didn't throw enough deep passes.

Trestman's rather vanilla offense does not impress me. The Bills do have a good defense and perhaps he was concerned about testing it in week one. It's also possible that some of the deeper passes come out when they're needed. I'd like to see them start with that stuff, build up a lead, and then switch to the clock-eating runs. But, hey, he's the professional.
