A possible spine-tingling matchup between Geno Smith and Ryan Mallett looms in this one. Not exactly Ali-Frazier or Brady-Manning, but who's counting?

The Ravens should win this, but if they stick with passing 2:1 over running they will not. And Joe (or Ryan) will get clobbered. They're getting back a couple of O linemen, but the line was never that good in pass defense.
A problem I see with this team is complete inflexibility.

They certainly ought to. This is the kind of game where, if they win, it doesn't say much. But if they lose, it says a lot.

Geno Smith has a high completion percentage--to the other team--so that bodes well for the Ravens. (Personally, I don't think the decision to bench Ryan Fitzpatrick for Geno Smith came from Todd Bowles; it sounds more like it came from a front office which realizes Fitzpatrick is not the answer, so they want to prove once and for all that Geno Smith can't play.)
The Ravens still have a chance to turn their season around. After the Jets, they head into the bye week, followed by a Roethlisberger-less Pittsburgh and then Cleveland. Should they lose tomorrow, however, they might want to start thinking about 2017.

They played like this was their bye week. Maybe the schedule was wrong? Webb was hurt. But it's so difficult to tell the difference between him hurt, and him playing that it took me awhile to realize it. Somebody put Devin back on the bus and return him to the retirement home before he's missed.
There's a large clock in your office, John, and it reads "9".
Not only did they lose to a team that they should have beaten, they looked horrible doing it. No unit played well. I can't see Harbaugh surviving this season. It's entirely possible they'll lose out. They're that bad.

We fans have very incomplete information, which means many theories may be advanced that seem like they fit the observables. Here's one of them: if the players did not believe Trestman was the problem (or not the whole problem), his ouster may have cost Harbaugh the locker room. It appears to me that the players are no longer interested in playing at a high level for this coach. Note that I am not contending that Trestman should still be the OC - his schemes were never impressive and this year they were ineffective.

No red zone plays against one of the NFL's worst defenses, and just two second-half first downs. That is lame by any definition.
If today was any indication, then I agree that Trestman may not have been the problem. The Ravens threw the ball 44 times today, which is difficult to explain when Flacco is dealing with a bum shoulder. Since 2012, they are 6-19 when Flacco throws more than 40 times. Apparently the right people have not received the memo.

I guess John Harbaugh better freshen up his resume.

I guess John Harbaugh better freshen up his resume. I would imagine so. I believe he'll have to win out and make the playoffs to save his job at this point; Bisciotti is no Peter Angelos, who tolerated failure for nearly two decades without doing much about it. I doubt anyone will be in a hurry to hire him. He's got no offensive or defensive play design experience to draw on and special teams coaches aren't that hard to find. Maybe a college or university?

They're activating Matt Elam. Boy, talk about subtraction by addition. They don't seem to understand he is a grade A, prime cut bust.

Suggs is practicing, intends to play with a torn bicep. Granted, they have no depth on this team (which is on Harbs and Ozzie), but a guy with an arm that won't work well, trying to pass rush or tackle?
