Another trade with Seattle. Likely a salary dump; the Orioles also sent some cash west. Smith could fit as a platoon outfielder. Probably signals they have no interest in re-signing Trumbo unless he is very inexpensive. Takes them down to five starters. Well, four starters and whatever Ubaldo is. Okay, three starters, Ubaldo and... Miley? Who?

I think the Orioles did pretty well to get at least something for Gallardo. Although Smith is strictly a platoon guy, he does fill a need in the outfield, and he posted a .342 OBP last season, which was higher than any current Oriole.
I also think Gallardo could bounce back and have a decent season for Seattle in that pitcher-friendly park. He won't have a heavy diet of AL East lineups, and he'll get to face the rather light-hitting Angels and Athletics on a somewhat regular basis.
