A Dance with Dragons.

It is the 5th book in the 'Song of Ice and Fire' series by George R. R. Martin.  So if you want to know what happens next in the TV show 'Game of Thrones' then I can probably tell you. 

But no spoilers.

So far it is better than the 4th book, 'A Feast for Crows'.  The 'Crows' book mostly dealt with minor characters so it meandered all over the place with out moving the story along much at all.  'Dragons' gets back to the main characters and thus moves right along.  Martin still takes his time getting to things and still likes to cliffhang his chapters. 

That said, the 4th and 5th books cover the same time period but follow different characters.  The TV show is a little over half way through the 3rd book so all I'll say about the 4th season is that it is going to be a ride.  If you thought the red wedding was shocking...

One more thing. George Martin is a fan of the TV show 'Breaking Bad' and he said that there is no character in Thrones that is as bad as Walter White and that he means to fix this. My bet for who gets this distinction are the following:
1) Ramsay Snow/Bolton. This is Roose Bolton's bastard son. In the third season he is the one that captures and tortures Theon Greyjoy. In the books he is quite the psychopath.
2)Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish. Some of the things he has done in 'Crows' suggest that he could take a WW turn for the psychotic.
3) the most disturbing choice: Arya Stark. What!?!?! The cute kid!?!?! In the books her character is much, much darker. She is like a 10 year old version of the Hound. She is driven by vengeance.

I have a feeling Martin is milking the series for all he can. There's a lot of dead space in the last three volumes where not much of anything happens at all. Also, there's the way he or his publisher decided that a Dance of Dragons was too large and had to be split into two books, each one priced as a full book. Later, I saw they did the same for ]A Feast of Crows. Kind of reminded me of Mel Brook's Spaceballs II: The Search for More Money. Only Mel was joking, Martin isn't. Let's all pray he doesn't die before he finishes the series. The one thing I appreciate about the television series is that it cuts away a lot of dead space from the last three books and is much better paced than they are.
