May need elbow surgery. Best of luck to him - Usually people do not visit James Andrews for routine stuff. USA Today

You'll have to excuse me for not feeling sorry for the Red Sox.

You'll have to excuse me for not feeling sorry for the Red Sox. I don't feel sorry for the Red Sox, either. However, I do feel sorry for David Price, as this is a serious matter. I suppose there's some overlap because he chose to go work for them, but I see them as separate enough that the one need not imply the other. In general, I do not feel these men should be ruining their futures to entertain me, as in, using a walker by 50, or unable to life their arm, or mentally impaired from concussions. Granted, most of what I've cited happens far more in football than baseball, but the rule applies.

It appears as if Price will not need surgery--just rest and medication. Very rare considering that a second opinion from Dr. Andrews is rarely a good thing. Still, you have to wonder if this will be one of those nagging injuries which limits his effectiveness all season. Price has logged over 1,600 innings already in his career, and there is nothing more fragile in baseball than a pitcher's arm. Another cautionary tale against mega-contracts for pitchers. Link

I hold the opinion that mega contracts for all players were only worthwhile because those players were abusing performance enhancers and the folks contemplating those signings knew it - perhaps conveyed via the agent. Now that this is more difficult to do (although I am convinced Ortiz got a pass last year so he could go out high), such contracts make far less sense.
