Since I was logged in, I thought I'd post a hello and touch base. It's been a while since I've been on here. Lots has happened. Last September I had to say goodbye to my 13 year old cat Sammy. He finally succumbed to his bowel illness but actually outlive the vets prognosis. She said he only had a year left (he was 8 at the time) and she recommended numerous surgeries and meds. We rejected all of them. Sammy lived to be 13, no surgeries, no meds. Just lots of love and lots of cleaning up litter box accidents and vomit. But he was otherwise a happy and bright eyed little boy who brought me lots of joy and I was with him till the end.
The same day we had him put down, we went to the shelter to look at cats. I had in mind to adopt a similar cat -- male, older -- I guess I wanted to stay in my comfort zone because I was grieving. But instead, a tiny little runt kitten (3 months old) hovered at my feet. A black cat. My husband, MrTG, looked at her collar. She was a female. Okay....well, I wanted another boy. My experience with girl cats has been that they are nasty. But I was in grief mode that day. I tried to ignore her but she kept coming up to me. I went into the adult cat room to look at the selection there, hoping to come away with a mature boy who just wanted to sit on my lap.
Meanwhile, tapping against the glass in the "young cat room" was the little runt black cat, apparently trying to get my attention.
End of story: I adopted that little girl that day. She was 3 months old and weighed about like a pound of butter. She is today 10 months old, beautiful, calm, loving, and so playful. She has beautiful eyes and a coat that looks like the most luscious pudding anyone could want. She is the most loving little girl cat I've ever known.
We have since discovered that she is also a wonderful surrogate Mom, as we now have 2 fosters here. She loves to ride in the car, loves to be groomed, and she is an amazing cat.
So I just wanted to say hi to eveyone who is still here.

Hi, towsongirl. So sorry to hear about Sammy. I've lost a few beloved furry family members myself.
Glad to hear you took the black runt. Did you know, black cats are harder to place than most? Superstition, I guess. The one who deigns to live with me now is gorgeous-- sleek, shiny, tail like a plume... She's, also, quite affectionate. First cat I've ever had that pets me! She likes to stroke my face with her paw-- claws retracted, of course. (It was a bit nerve-wracking at first-- vulnerable eyes and all that.)
Best to you both, Kemmer

I just adopted the runt of a litter of pitbull puppies from BARCS last week. She's still in the timid stage but every day gets a little better.

She was 13, and the sweetest cat I've ever owned. I don't think she ever hissed or growled at me. The trouble makers are the tortoiseshells. Lily's predicessor was named Chainsaw. It started out as a joke... I got her when she was all of 2 months old, and a friend of mine suggested the name. When I took her to be spayed, I told the vet I'm calling her Chainsaw until I can think of something better. The vet had me drop her off in the morning, and told me they'd keep her overnight for observation. About 4:30, I got an urgent call from the vet, telling me I needed to come get her right away. When I arrived, there were warning notices all over her crate. Apparently one of the techs opened the crate to check on her and her guard was down because Chainsaw looked woozy. Apparently though, the cat was just faking... she lept out of the kennel and ran amok in the back room of the vet's office. It took the staff 20 minutes to corral her, and they told me she did about $1,200 worth of damage to various pieces of equipment. Suffice it to say, the name stayed after that.

I had to run the puppy to the Vet today because she ate a bunch of the baby's plastic alphabet letters.
