This is the Pulitzer prize winning novel about the Battle of Gettysburg. I picked it up for a little poolside reading but it's become my rainy day read instead. It's so interesting I'm planning a trip up to Gettysburg next week with the fam. It's been a while since we've been up there. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Killer_Angels

Read it back when it was required reading for one of my kids in high school. I'd recommend it to anyone. (And I'm a girl, not much into "war stories" books... well, except for "Sword & Sorcery Fantasy" stuff. ;D )
Gotta feel for Chamberlain-- and marvel at a time when a college professor of rhetoric, for crying out loud, had, via what was then considered a proper curriculum for any gentleman daring to call himself well-educated, sufficient understanding of ancient battles and tactics to use them when required.
Yes, I am an unreconstructed aficionado of a liberal arts education. We should recall that the "S" and the "M" of the current fad for "STEM studies for all!" (rah rah rah) have always been part of the liberal arts-- and the "T" and "E" parts have historically been the province of trade schools. There's a place for trade schools, too, of course. Just, maybe, someplace a little less arrogantly narrow-minded? (Yeah, yeah, I know. Asking engineers not to be narrow-minded-- they call themselves "totally logically focused" or somesuch-- is asking them to deny who they are as persons. So doth "identity politics" destroy us all. *sigh*)

It was just very well written. I'd pick it up and all of a sudden I'd be 80 pages into it.
As far as trade schools go, my buddy owns a trucking company. Do you know what the going salary range for a diesel mechanic is? $160-$185k per year.
