Last evening in imax 3d.....very impressive. Bullock and clooney did a much better job that I thought they would and the visuals were everything I was hoping for. Good flick.

Yep, I enjoyed Gravity as well. This is a flick that has to be seen on the big screen in order to do it justice.

And if you haven't seen it, Captain Phillips is a good one, too.

And if you haven't seen it, Captain Phillips is a good one, too. Yes, I enjoyed that quite a bit as well. With the understanding that liberties are taken with most every film "based on a true story", I have read that the ship's crew took great issue with the movie's version of events.

I saw an interview with Capt. Phillips in which he said that most of the ships he skippers are armed. He said that pirates are at quite a few places around the world in addition to the usual Somali locations.

I really wasn't expecting much when I saw who was going to be in it. I was pleasantly surprised.
I worked on the first 4 Hubble Repair Missions, so the opening scene was really a rush for me. Imagine my surprise when I saw a piece of hardware that I designed. It was cool enough seeing the astronauts use it during SM-2, but to see it in a Hollywood blockbuster. Good thing nobody else was in the theatre when I yelled out to my date, "Hey, I designed that box!"
And I gotta say, they really did their homework as far as the hardware goes. All the gadgets they were using were very authentic. Of course, since the Shuttle program is now shut down, there are plenty of out of work NASA engineers they could get as consultants on the cheap.

****SPOILER ALERT****
Where was the force coming from that was tugging on Sandra Bullock and George Clooney when her foot was snagged on that cable? I could detect no spinning motion that could account for it (i.e., centrifugal force). Or was that force "poetic license?"

That and the intact (but at least dead) bodies in the shuttle after instantaneous decompression...

Really liked both Gravity and Capt. Phillips, as well as Ender's Game, which we saw yesterday. But I got extremely nauseated during Gravity (the scene where she flips over and over soon after being cut loose from the ship), and somewhat queasy during the parts of Capt. Phillips when they're in that small enclosed lifeboat (claustrophobia is a nasty thing). I was glad I made it through Ender's Game with no nausea, or I would start to wonder if I'm getting too old to go to the movies!

I could detect no spinning motion that could account for it (i.e., centrifugal force). Or was that force "poetic license?" They played loose with the laws of physics on many scenes. When she went spinning off into space, there is no way no stop that spinning. And Clooney flying all around at the beginning would never, ever happen. You don't fool around like that in space. There is a very fine line between life and death out there. That also goes for the guy that kept pushing himself out to the end of his tether.

I saw it in 2D and I did like it. It was entertaining but I too found myself wondering if that would or could happen in (or over) the real world. But it is a movie, you have to have an open mind. All in all I had fun. And even the 2D was making me queasy at times, especially each time the debris "came through"!
