...along with the FLOTU and some staff. As if the year in general, and the election in particular, doesn't already have enough curve-balls and drama.
I'm homesick for 2019...

I sent a note to the administrator several days ago concerning the situation but unfortunately have not heard back.
From what I can tell, neither EY nor the New Sheriff etc want anything to do with moderating here. Both have been absent for (I think) years at this point. No new members can join....but I guess that means fewer fake accounts and sock-puppetry, so WTH.
EDITED TO ADD: Not that I am criticizing them....dboard moderation is a thankless task, and I doubt it is much fun either.

If there is no way for new members to join, due to an absence of moderators, then the board is essentially a closed group and will die out. Well in the literal sense you are of course correct, of course the same can be said of any forum, it will also die out eventually. The question is how long, and if the people who post here are having a good time. Personally the forum seems much calmer than it was, and without moderators we don't have to watch what we post as carefully (I know that is a contradiction). I got 20% penalty for feeling sorry for another posters wife. You all have lasted quite a while with no moderators, time will tell if this site dies out now that the Sun has died (or been killed). While it is alive lets try and have some discussions on the issues, not just the ad hominem attacks that the old Sun had. Yeah, but it is kinda quiet here...and a few new members wouldn't go amiss. More intellectual diversity, etc. I myself have largely stopped cominng here due to the low posting volume.

The word over there is that since there is no active moderation here, new posters from the SUN board can't get approved here on sunspotliveson.proboards.com/Don't know if this is true or not....IS there any moderation here?

It must really suck to be a Democrat, in the wake of Slick Willy. Try to sling a little mud, and the rest of the country reminds you immediatlely about how you all went all-in for Bill and ll his pervy sexual harassing, rapes, adulteries, etc.
Kinda like having a real nice gun that just won't shoot.

I know enough about sexual harassment to know that in most cases it needs to be a pattern of behavior. Single isolated incidents rarely amount to harassment. You really should take your own advice and read up on it. As for Trump’s behavior, what he has been accused of doesn’t even rise to the level of the accusations against Franken, who the Democrats are now starting to defend again, now that Roy Moore isn’t going to be a Senator.
You have held up the accusations made by Taggart and Virginia as examples of incidents that need to be investigated. Taggart accused Trump of a single incident of excessive hugging and kissing; Virginia accused Trump of a single incident of commenting on her legs, grabbing her arm and touching the side of her breast. I consider this behavior boorish, but it doesn’t even get close to harassment. Remind me to keep you away from my 96 year old grandmother. She is prone to cheek pinching, and I don’t want her charged with sexual battery. RJ.... Given his classless behavior to date, what odds would you give that Franken will actually keep his word and resign from the Senate? (Not that faux resignation we were given, complete with a non-apology and a vague "in a few weeks". I mean truly leaving his office) Given Roy Moore's loss, I'd say it's about 80% certain he will walk it back and try to hang on to his position. What odds would you give?

And now someone else jumps in . . . jumping to erroneous conclusions. I said I know who Steinem is and that I'm not very knowledgeable about her. No, I had never heard of the "one grope rule." But, then again, I've never groped women. Is this a rule you still use, or have you finally stopped? The “one grope rule” was created by feminists, specifically Stinem, and the media that supports her. It is a creation of the Left used to support a Democrat president. But again, we all know the one free grope rule was only for Democrats. Republicans don’t need to be anything but Republicans to be anti-woman. I remember when Steinem came out with that ridiculous justification in an attempt to provide a credible ( ) defense for Slick Willy and his willy. Mind you, she rolled out this tripe shortly after closing ranks with Anita Hill and the Packwood accusers......but suddenly, when it was a Democratic president whose ox was being gored? Different. A buddy of mine at work and a female co-worker went over this idea at lunch one day. Given the size of the company, and acting on Steinem's silly premise, we took the idea to it's extreme, and said that a man could grope a woman without consequence about once a week, and still be in bounds. Our female co-worker said to give her cubicle a pass, unless we wanted to get shanked with a letter opener. This is yet another reason why so few young women self-describe as feminist. When you beclown yourself and your principles in the service of a political agenda, you are justly ridiculed by rational people. Lots of folks will pause to watch a fool's parade pass....but not many will feel compelled to fall in and march along.

So you have no idea who Gloria Steinem is. Oh, I know who Gloria Steinem is. Just not as knowledgeable about assaulting women as you are. Like I said, I have too much respect for women. Unlike the President. If you don't know about and immediately understand the term "one-grope rule", you know nothing at all about Gloria Steinem. And given that all the events it references only happened 20 years ago, you are either very young and clueless....or you were oblivious during the late '90s. Like blackout-drunk-for-5-years oblivious.

We have moderators...did they all go AWOL? Apparently, yes. I do pity them a little. Getting rid of the riff-raff would make this place pretty quiet. Not getting rid of them gives you what we've got. Third posibility....get rid of the BS, more posters will start good threads, and more folks will join or go active again. But yeah...moderating is a thankless job.

Dude are you that dense. It's Kongo trying to impersonate me. Look at the post count or click on his avatar. He suffers from serious mental illness which he tries to medicate with alcohol. It's pretty transparent but you guys think it soooo cute so he continues. He'll be back over on the Sunspot. Just look for someone posting about minorities committing crime or Shrillary Cankles. It will be Altie #9 or 10 for him this year! Dense?
No, just a busy adult.
I stopped playing games like that back when I was...oh wait...hell, I never played silly games like that.
I registered on this board with the same username I had on Sunspot, and quite a few other boards. I don't give a sh1t who doesn't like who, who is trying to impersonate who, sock puppets, etc. The only f*^king reason I'm here at all is to talk over national and local news/issues, and occasionally sports....and I prefer to do it with people who didn't top out in the 8th grade.

Report him to the moderator ... 😜😂Actually he has every right to fill the forum with his unpleasantness, The idea of free speech allows anyone to prove what a jerk they can be if they want to, every hour on the hour. But it would be nice if he didn't. So I doubt a mod can or would do anything. I don't stop by here much anymore; and sadly, I used to like to. It's a shame what has happened to this board. We have what appears to be a spam-generating bot that fills each thread-list page with childish nonsense, potty humor, etc. The mods (if indeed there still are any), won't ban it from posting because, if they did, there would likely be no one starting threads. The board would die on the vine...or at least that seems to be their calculus. (Frankly, I think other folks would step up if it were banned, but that's just my opinion)
What I find amusing is the way the grownups here (the ones who actually want to explore issues, talk current events, rational exchange of views, etc) will enter the thread, highjack it, and begin a discussion... while ignoring the OP bot and not responding to it's posts. (See the Irma/Jose hurricane thread in Nationals for a fine example)
It's pretty much the only way do get a decent discussion going....on a freaking DISCUSSION BOARD.
Like I said: sad. Well, the Sun forums are active and free, so there's that.

I know that overblown predictions and near-hysterical proclamations make great headlines, encourage clicks, and put eyes on the screens...but in a situation like this, the almost sacred duty of the networks/MSM is to get accurate information to the affected areas, and in as timely a fashion as possible.
Making some airheaded bint stand out in a 60 mph wind in front of a camera is hardly helpful....and given the possibility of flying debris, is dangerous as hell to boot. If there is ever a time for a Joe Friday "just the facts, ma'am" moment, without all the wild surmises and conjecture, that is surely it.

Usually, there is the non-apology, followed by a micro-retraction.
I wonder what made them change up?
Maybe now that the election is over, they are trying to salvage their tattered brand...

Good point. I am unsure how much the speed of the bullet would degrade over the flight time. Found a chart that had velocities out to 2500 yds, which is 3/4 of the distance of this shot, and they do drop off during flight....but not that much, relatively speaking. The round comes out of the barrel at 2950fps, and at 2500 yds, it has reduced speed to 2085fps. Still booking right along... I found one ballistics table that gave 1019 at 2000 yds, but didn't give bullet weight. As I said though, a .45 starts at about 800 fps with a 230 gr bullet, so a 750 gr at 1000 would do a lot of damage. TOF for that round was given as 3.8 secs for 2000 yds. The distance that bullet had to travel was 34 football fields +/-. That is one LONG way....
Funny....a lot of people don't give the .50 enough credit. A .460 Weatherby throws a bullet of 610gr, and is easily enough to take out a Cape Buffalo or an elephant. The .50 is larger, more accurate, and heavier still..... and can also be used to attack grounded aircraft (shoot out the engine, and it's a lawn ornament) and light-skinned vehicles.

Great shot, and bravo Canada! But.... 10 seconds to reach the target? I call bullsh1t... .50 BMG Bullet mass/type Velocity 655 gr (42 g) ADI 3,029 ft/s (923 m/s) 700 gr (45 g) Barnes 2,978 ft/s (908 m/s) 750 gr (49 g) Hornady 2,820 ft/s (860 m/s) 800 gr (52 g) Barnes 2,895 ft/s (882 m/s) That bullet is moving somewhere between 2800-3000 fps. 2 miles = 10,560ft Somewhere around 3.5 secs. Great tale to be told, stupid reporter and editor. SSDD. I don't profess to know much about guns and ballistics, but aren't your velocity figures muzzle velocity, and what would the terminal velocity actually be at 3000 metres? Good point. I am unsure how much the speed of the bullet would degrade over the flight time. shooter
From the article:
Kinda boring, this being right all the time

Post by freddfish on Jun 14, 2017 11:51:09 GMT -5
Here's how this will play:
The shooter (assuming he actually IS a leftwing nutjob) will be described as "passionate" rather than something more perjorative.
He will also be described as a fine fellow who was driven to this by Trump's blah blah blah...
Calls for gun control (can't claim this one as an original, twitter had posters saying this within minutes)
The "hateful rhetoric caused this terrible thing to happen!" will be conspicuously absent....unless the specious case that it was hateful right wing rhetoric can be made

The part where she starts bawling and blaming "old white men" for her own tasteless behavior was my favorite. She goes all the way to full-on delusional in about 30 seconds.
But let me get this straight: she does something incredibly tacky and stupid, for attention. She gets called out for it....loses a handy gig on NY Eve, gets excorciated by her erstwhile co-host, loses sponsors, and her career rolls into the ditch, etc.
And somehow, this is the fault of Trump and "old white men"....not hers.
Right.

It might be, if there was a reasonable suspicion that she was previewing something she meant to do. Do you honestly believe that's what happened here? Trump has immense influence. It's called "the US Government". I'll file that under "things conservatives apparently don't know". Damn. Gotta get another file cabinet. Well, that depends on who's standards we're using. Liberals think a rodeo clown wearing an Obama mask while acting like a clown is a racist hate crime; and that Sarah Palin putting crosshairs on a map made Jared Lee Loughner shoot Gabby Giffords. Gawker Under those standards, the effigy of Trump's severed head is obviously part of an assassination plot. Griffin is a liberal, so obviously she knows carrying around Trump's severed head will obviously inspire someone to act. If this was Ted Nugent, who's an unsophisticated knuckle-dragger, he's not smart enough to know such things, and one could make the case he's just an idiot. But this is Griffin. She's a member of the liberal elite in good standing. She obviously wants Trump dead, and surely believes this is a way to insure it happens.
Agreed. I for one am heartily sick of the MSM double standards we are supposed to embrace without complaint, and you just cited merely one of a myriad of glaring examples of this.
Anyone who can look at this and NOT see the double standard being employed is either blinded by left-wing partisanship.... or is merely an ordinary, garden-variety fool. (of course, the 2 are by no means mutually exclusive....) It requires a flight into the bozone layer that leaves the matching luggage of logic and common sense sitting on the tarmac, forlorn and neglected.
