Roberts and McClouth are both gone and either one of them would have been the lead off hitter. How will the orioles replace McClouth's stolen bases and his speed and defense?

I think the answer is that they won't. Maybe they hope to see someone they can promote in spring training, but clearly they do not want to spend any more money.
It will be very interesting to see what they do when Manny becomes a free agent. I'll bet the Yankees are unhappy that he's not one now; they know they can outbid the club for the services of any Oriole they care to take.

His power appears to be diminishing, but Markakis might be the best option if no one else is brought in (yeah, right). At least he can work counts and make the pitcher use his repertoire of pitches.

I'm sure there's some aging cheap player out there that'll fit the bill for the Orioles

I'm sure there's some aging cheap player out there that'll fit the bill for the Orioles Hey, Vernon Wells in now available. Since the Angels and Dodgers will essentially be paying him not to play for them next season, the Orioles should be able to sign him on the cheap. He isn't worth a pitcher of warm spit, but that doesn't appear to be a primary concern around Camden Yards anymore.

I understand that PA is going to test the theory that if he buys enough monkeys & typewriters, they will create the next great American novel.
