Watched the debate last night- for those who do not know what it was about. Nye the science guy. Ham the creationist. I believe that God created everything in his timeline. So I want yall to know my BIAS upfront What got me is that Nye kept literally threatening that if you do not believe him our country is in trouble!!!! That we will become stagnate in competition with growth in technology in other areas. Believe him or our country will not grow... believe in the bible and oh hell. I hate to say Mr Nye you should read more history then science and see how the founding fathers seen our country. It appears even though we have the RIGHT to believe as we do it has not stagnated this country since its foundation. I always feel when someone has no better argument they use fear. I was actually disgusted by it. That said anyone else watch have a different view?

We made lots of progress with the majority of our nations being devoutly religious. I think Mr. Nye was projecting unscientific bias onto his pro- science presentation!

Did he explain how a belief in creationism is going to cause us to become stagnate in competition with growth in technology in other areas?
If not then he ought to change his name from Bill Nye The Science Guy to Bill Nye the Sound Bite Guy.

I didn't know about it until today. However, as I have said before I don't think that creationists and scientists need to be enemies. Although I believe in God I also believe in science; I don't think the two are incompatible with each other.

Com6063 I agree I do not see them either, but Nye does.
"And I say to the grownups, if you want to deny evolution and live in your world, in your world that's completely inconsistent with everything we observe in the universe, that's fine, but don't make your kids do it because we need them. We need scientifically literate voters and taxpayers for the future. We need people that can—we need engineers that can build stuff, solve problems."
There are scientist who are also creationist. He has a serious bias issue that he is not even comprehending that influence is holding him back from seeing the entire picture in my opinion.

I'm not sure of the logic of what you believe in, and both creationism and big bang are both beliefs, will stifle or encourage engineering or any other science.

I think it was a valid point that Nye did not even brush upon when Ham said that science also has belief? Which is absolutely true. I love those people that say I believe in nothing and yet they have all set parameters of what they accept as factual and those they accept as not factual through purely a belief.

There has to be a certain measure of belief when science isn't able to meet the gold standard of repeatability.

I don't think the debate was all that because it did not go back to back on points to me. I would of liked to see more of a point for point debate. Some points raised were not even answered. It was a bit on the water down I guess.

I believe that both creationism and science can co-exist. I think that evolution was part of God's architecture. Why can't it be? Humans, created in the image of God, have made so many wonderful advances in science. I read several point/counter-point blogs of the debate yesterday. This one was interesting to me in that the author himself is not a believer in the Bible. He made one point that I've been mullling over. Is he right or wrong? Slate - Maybe Bill Nye got it right after all

I find that they both can also be one in the same --- sometimes its in the details. Science is belief as well, but to understand that belief we do not call it that...we call it theory in which a hypothesis is produced. I agree with Ham on that. The question really is the view of dating and the way it happened..... and then of course God. What gets me in Nye's excitement he longs for something. I just wonder if that something is God. As far as time goes a few interesting things. Let's say this if things in outer space slow down--- then on the futher outs of space it can be very slow where a day is 100,000 years. Or whatever. I think when SCIENTIST like Nye try to explain why the BIBLE is not correct they look at it with their feet planted an the ground instead of viewing it from some distance where time relative to the changing around appears even slower then the feet planted on the ground earth. Do I think scientist have a bias absolutely and from all sides even Ham...even I. But I feel if I take myself apart from it and reading even the scientific world its coming closer and closer inline with the bible. Or the other way around above sorry no sleep since off work

And science is trying to make it not fit. You are not disrespecting me by disagreeing... I like to learn- tell me your points? I can appreciate a different view as long as you can.

Science is not doing that. Points? Maybe there are scientists that are anti religion. And do research to prove their bias. But I haven't seen it.
