We are heading to Niagra Falls this summer. We will be staying on the Canadian side.
Any suggestions or day trips while we are there? We plan on visiting the Falls of course, boat trip and a helicopter ride. I am just putting this trip together so if you have any experiences please share.

It's been over 10 years since we went. With 4 kids it was costly to do a lot.
Didn't do the boat. Did the behind the falls. At the bottom the water is right in front of you. We also did the cable car over the rapids.
You can do a day trip to Toronto. My boys were hockey fans and we went to the Hall of Fame. Also went up in the tower by the ballpark.

I wonder if that foul odor that used to (years ago) stink up the air around the Nabisco plant area is still in the air...

I was there 6 months ago on the US side and thought it was awful. The town is third world with trash everywhere, boarded up buildings and it stinks of sour milk and curry. The maid of the mist boat tour was good and worth the money and that's all I have good to say about the place Since we had already booked in for two nights we drove around to other areas to fill in time. I know you said you are going to be on the Canadian side and I have heard that it's a lot better over there, but I gone up without my passport so we were stuck on the US side.

Also, they frozen at the moment, and after seeing them - it's hard to believe they can actually freeze.

Of course, that was at Niagara Falls. I've never been to Niagra Falls...

Go to Clifton Hill, the Whirlpool, the casinos. All good fun. If you like wine there are dozens of amazing wineries at Niagara On The Lake. On the way there there are some pretty cool stops, topiary gardens, etc.

When me and my wife got married we headed up to Niagara Falls, then we ended up going up to Canada finding a nice quiet lake somewhere canoeing in and camping out. It was so romantic.

Why are passports required to just cross over to and from Canida? Why can't the U.S. issue a day or week temporary pass that could be held onto and taken back through customs when returning?

The world changed after 9-11. Customs has no idea what is being brought back by whomever, or if you included traveled somewhere other than Canada after arriving there, and the Canadians would have no idea of your traveling history that could possibly raise red flags. I would not want to be in a foreign country without my US passport, even Canada (though I think they're the best neighbors any country could have). That passport is your lifeline to US assistance and protection if needed.

The crossing into Canada is terrible anymore. You better not have any inkling of a DUI or other crimes. It's terrible. The world is a worst place after 9/11. The terrorist won. We live in terror and fear anymore

kk and i are planning a trip to the canadian side of the falls...but don't know when. we wanted to do it last year...even got our passports...but we just couldn't fit it in. we went to AAA and got great info on what's going on in and around the area and also what might be good to see on the way there. maybe you could try them. we will definitely include watkins glenn in our trip though.

Passports were required to fly into Canada a couple of years before (2007) one was required to drive in (2009)... now they are required for either mode of travel... the last time I went to Toronto, a passport was required to fly in but not drive in... so, I flew to Pittsburgh, PA and drove up... nice drive... I would recommend crossing over at Buffalo and driving up the west side of the river... the river is awesome as it approaches the falls...

I've crossed both several times and in several places... the northern one is much preferred...
