Can't say it is a surprise after last year, but it's too bad for him. He seemed like a stand up guy. Maybe he will turn it around again.

They paid a great deal of money for a closer who isn't. Both of them better hope he turns it around.

Johnson's early struggles with the A's appear to be a carryover from his shaky 2013 with the Orioles. He's getting behind in counts because he's having trouble getting the sinker over for a strike. Since Johnson doesn't have that one go-to strikeout pitch, he becomes very hittable when he has to come into the strike zone. I hope he gets himself straightened out, but to my way of thinking, he just doesn't have closer's stuff.

In general one should take a close look at why a team is reluctant to re-sign a guy. Clearly the O's did not think Johnson was worth what he would be paid. And the Indians did not think Jimenez was worth what he'd be paid. And it might be that both teams were right.
