he right wing attempts to pass off urban violence on the left by pointing out that the majority of mayors from major cities are Democratic. Yet, this ignores the historical fact that cities are centers of crime by virtue of population density. Also, major improvements in the crime rates of several major cities have demonstrated that it is social and local policy which determine crime rates. Not party. Trying to lie about Democrats promoting crime to keep the serfs scared enough to reelect Democrats. The truth is that Democrat controlled cities are more violent. The 3 cities with the highest violent crime rates in the country are DC, NY, and Chicago, and all 3 have the tightest victim disarmament laws in the country.

"Remember, poverty is one of the highest causes of crime in violent states, and there are things we can do to help."
I'll wager that conclusion is based on a correlation between poverty and crime, however, the author probably doesn't know that correlation cannot prove cause and effect, i.e. correlation does not prove causation. I think that the reason there is a correlation between poverty and crime is because of underlying factors that affect both poverty and crime, not a direct cause.

Vast majority of crime in US is not due to needing to steal to feed oneself or pay bills- it's to feed a nasty habit, or it's done to eliminate or intimidate rival dealers. Why does it correlate with poverty? Well, you won't have much cash if you spend all you have shooting dope up your veins.

Crime in urban areas is not limited to America. It's the nature of the beast .

Crime in urban areas is not limited to America. It's the nature of the beast . No, but it's far worse in US cities than in other industrialized nations. And that's because American Liberals promote crime, as a tool to keep people addicted to government, and therefore continuing their power.

I've wandered around in cities from Nurnberg to Seoul, to Houston, NY, SF, LA, and Denver. Never felt as safe in US cities as in German ones. Besides, isn't the constant argument that "we are the most violent, so have to have "gun" control"? That we need to "fall in line" with the Socialist countries, because they are so much better than we are? And, by the way, nearly every large city in the US is controlled by Democrats. Which is one of the reasons the violence is so high in them.

How about you giving a credible link that our urban areas are dangerous because of some nefarious Democrat plot to make them so?

Credible is in the eye of the beholder, there are no credible links for everyone. I frankly hold to the theory that stupidity is behind most things.

Poverty promotes hopelessness, and that is what promotes crime, and for various reasons there's a lot of poverty in cities. The other thing that promotes crime is a demand for the contraband products and services criminals provide - and that demand comes from suburbs as well as cities. Indeed, there's more money in suburbs and so they may be more of the problem.

Hopelessness is promoted by dependency, if welfare traps people into poverty (which it does) then that would seem to be a cause for crime. The only way to break that cycle is to encourage people to get off the handouts, what party seems to want that? Hint: Not dems.

Dependency can promote hopelessness. So can feeling that one has no chance to succeed because the deck is stacked against them. A lot of Republican policies leave people with that feeling. So, it's perfectly possible to make the case for either political party. The sad truth is there will always be some percentage of society that just won't ever succeed, and they'll be angry enough about that to commit crimes.

And then there's politics ....

Doesn't anybody read the disclaimer anymore? Of course... the same folks that would try an use the data to support a claim that civil rights lead to the greatest violence would be entirely opposed to the view that Progressive policies have resulted in Chicago's 'ranking.' Thus far, we have found our portion of TN to be no more dangerous or safer than our portion of CA.

Since the early 60's, the Liberal coddling of criminals, and even rewarding criminal behavior of certain groups, has created an atmosphere reminiscent of Rome just before it fell. Look at the worst cities for crime in the US. LA, DC, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, all are bastions of Liberal social engineering experimentation. And all are dying.

It's not Republican policies, it's the Democrat propaganda about those Republican policies. Puppettax is a perfect example. The Dems swore on a stack of Little Red Books that Puppettax would give free health care to everyone, put a chicken in every pot, and a Ferrari in every driveway. Any Republican that even asked a question was accused of racism, cannibalism, pedophilia, and wearing panties. Most people still get their "news" from the LR media, who lied about everything being done.

I've been to Memphis a lot of violent crimes are gang related. You have your turf that your members cover in shifts, when your shift is over you handover the gang cell phone and gun to the next member and drugs to sell. when another gang comes into your terriorty you start with a warning shot and if that doesn't work shoot them in the leg. We got 30 different gangs in York and the York police say if your going to get shot York Hospital is a great place to get treated because the surgeons have so much experience in gun shot wounds
