They have no consistently present offensive players not named Cruz, and I fear he'll be caught again, soon, and lost for the rest of the year. If he's not, he'll be gone next year, along with Markakis (who can still hit, sometimes, just not for power any longer), and Hardy. Jimeniz is looking like an expensive mistake, and Norris is the only starter they have with an ERA < 4. Both Joe Angel and Keith Mills have commented that Machado isn't the player he was pre-surgery. Maybe he's just got to shake the rust off. Let's hope. Weiters needs to decide whether to get his elbow rebuilt or not.
I'm back to hearing about the Ravens first OTA and thinking, as I did for over a decade before the last couple of years, "A couple of months from training camp for the one decent team we've got in this town, at which point I can cease to care about the Orioles for another season."
I give Duquette one more lackluster, no pitching finding offseason before fans start calling for his ouster. But since he was the fourth or fifth choice, who would the be able to get to replace him?

You got spoiled by .500 ball quickly! I wouldn't say I'm disappointed, but maybe growing a little disinterested. Off topic, games are taking forever. I cannot remember the last time I watched a whole 9 innings. Last night it took over an hour to play 3 innings. Yawn. I switched to something else. It's gotten as bad as football. I can't sit around for 3 hours for anything i'm not getting paid for.

I heard something a month or so ago, never attributed, about a baseball executive who wants to cut games to seven innings to speed them up. Maybe there are so many teams there aren't enough high quality pitchers to go around any longer.
Positive news on the Wieters front last night, at least: supposedly ready to start throwing. And Dylan Bundy threw 3 innings in extended ST; he's scheduled to throw on Sunday, and then four innings next week.

speaking of disappointing, if none of Bundy, Gausman, and Harvey turn into a top of the rotation starter, I may stop taking any interest until we get a new owner. I really hope one of those guys breaks through by next season. There is no way you can consistently win in the under $200M category unless you draft and develop some of your own SP.

Gausman has a question mark next to him. It's still early days but in his appearances so far I haven't seen much. Bundy... much too soon to say. Harvey likewise. But given Britton, Arieta, Matusz... they either can't draft well, or they draft well but can't develop the players. I fear the farm system isn't too well run.
P.S. Britton and Matusz aren't without value, but neither will they ever be the top flight starters everyone was predicting they would be. Britton might put together a decent career as a closer.

Baseball is tough. Every town wants a team that wins the World Series. What we needed was no longer being the laughing stock of the league and we have achieved that. The Orioles are not a joke by any stretch and sometimes I just enjoy watching a little baseball on the tv while smoking my pipe regardless of who wins.

1983, I'm still waiting to party again in the streets for our baseball team, I hope it's not on a walker.
