Jay Cutler ruled out. Good news or bad for the Ravens' chances?

Definitely advantage Ravens. While McCown has certainly played quite well in a very limited sample size this season, he is sure to come down to earth soon. And I think it benefits the Ravens to have Cutler ruled out so early in the week, which gives them that much more prep time for McCown. Also keep in mind that Tillman, a very solid DB, has been put on the IR as well.
But most importantly, I will be there to watch it. Pigskin action, some deep dish pies, and great live blues--what's not to love?

The Bears defensive front seven is one of the weakest in the league, so this could be the week the Ravens rushing totals can be measured in yards instead of feet. I'm not sure Cutler being out is all that much of a plus for the Ravens since McCown played well against Washington and won at Green Bay (minus Aaron Rodgers, it should be noted). McCown is probably a better fit for Chicago's offense at this point, which might explain why the Bears have taken a wait-and-see approach to Cutler's pending free agency.

While most any NFL team should be able to run against the Bears, I take nothing for granted when it comes to the motley crew that we have on the offensive line. The interior line in particular has been nothing short of awful. Couple that with the fact that Rice, whether due to injury or wear and tear, is clearly not the same RB as before. I really hope that the Ravens incorporate Pierce much more in the offense.
As for McCown, if you look at his career stats over 11 years, they are marginal to say the least. Here's hoping he reverts back to normal much sooner rather than later.

The Bears are beat up, but we're playing like a pony league team. I think it may be who wants to give it away more?

It's always good news when a team has to rely on a second stringer; if he was better than Cutler he'd be the starter. The Ravens played harder last week, perhaps knowing their back was against the wall. It's basically against the wall the rest of the way; they can't really afford any losses at this point. Whether it is sustainable is a question. The offensive line was still not getting the job done, and Ray was still ineffective on the ground. The essentially complete lack of a rushing game is going to cost them at least one victory down the road, and that's likely to end their chances this year.
All the sudden Harbs is talking like Rice's hip is still bothering him. Either he did not know this, which is not good (a coach should be able to figure this out even if a player tries to conceal it), or he did know it and kept it to himself, perhaps because they literally have no alternatives. Some coaching decisions this year have me scratching my head in puzzlement.

Sounds fun, Bruce, and being the outdoorsman you are, I'm sure you'll bundle up warm. Perhaps your presence at the game will bring the Ravens some much needed good luck. I went to my first live football game over the weekend, the Bengals game, and it was really a blast. I had a much better time than I thought I'd have.

Rice's hip injury has me puzzled as well. If I recall, it wasn't the result of a collision between players, it just happened while he was running the ball. But the injury really seems to have hurt his performance. Someone on this forum wrote recently that Rice is playing like he's afraid to get hit. It sure does seem that way. It sad because that's not the Ray Rice we remember.

Maybe, at 5'8" and getting hit almost every play he isn't long for the NFL. Shame, his star shown bright before this year..... we have 1/2 year to find out.

My college roommate lives just outside of Chicago, which gives me a great excuse to visit. During my first trip there, we took a tour of Soldier Field, which IMHO is one of those few iconic places (Lambeau is at the top of the list) in which to watch an NFL game. I just love most everything about Chicago--Wrigley Field, great live music, the Chicago River, lots of open space downtown, deep dish pies, you name it.

We did stay for the whole game. We were in row 16, a great view, and it was amazing and nail biting every moment! We didn't actually pick the game though, my husband won tickets.

That game was the very definition of the agony/ecstasy paradigm. Which meant that whiskey consumption followed almost immediately afterwards. And since the Ravens pulled it out, you are hereby required to attend all future home games.

Wore it Sunday and we won, and wore it a year ago while watching another critical game, and we won that one as well.

If I were the Ravens I'd use a heavy dose of Bernard Pierce. He avg'd a respectable 3.9 ypc this week, and this might be the team to get the running game going on. That said, I would still like to see them use the game plan they had this week, which was to come out passing to soften things up.
Ravens have to go 3-1 in the next four games to have a realistic shot at the post season. The Bears game is clearly the toughest of those, as the next three are cupcakes for the most part. Though you can count on the Steelers being "up" for us even though they are pretty much out of it.

That game doesn't figure to be a walkover by any means.

Of those games, I call only the Vikings tilt a sure win. The Ravens can easily lose to the other three teams if they come out soft as they have for so many games this year.
