A 6.92 ERA in 38 appearances and just two saves for Oakland this season. Hard to believe this is the same guy who saved 51 games just two seasons ago. His last appearance for Oakland was a disaster--four earned runs without retiring a single Houston batter on Wednesday. Things got so bad the fans even started booing his wife.
I never thought Johnson was as good as he showed then, and I never felt fully comfortable whenever he came in, but I never expected him to lose it this quickly. He'll likely catch on somewhere--someone will think they can fix a guy who saved 101 games over two seasons--and maybe he can get things turned around somewhat. I've always contended that Johnson didn't have closer's stuff, but if he can get that sinker sinking again, he could be a serviceable 7th or 8th inning guy. If not, well, his next change of scenery might very well be his last.

good luck to him. He comes across as a solid guy. I'm sure someone will take a chance on him. Relievers fade into and out of form. Maybe he's got another good streak in him, but probably not going to be a closer again. Oh, to have enough talent to work in an industry with guaranteed contracts...

Allowing him to move on makes Duquette look as brilliant as signing Jiminez makes him look dumb. That's the nature of baseball.
