York Daily RecordSo my fellow Pennsylvanians elected a new Democrat Governor, and the first thing he does? Try to raise income and sales taxes. Way to own the "tax and spend liberal" stereotype, Gov. Wolf.

Wolf's proposals sound like they came from the O'Malley playbook. From the OP's link: "Wolf said his budget would reduce the total tax burden on average middle-class homeowners by 13 percent." I remember O'Malley, after the MGA special session on taxes, claiming that 95% of Marylanders would see a reduction in their tax bill." And he said it with a straight face.
I think the reason Wolf got elected was because there were too many LIVs that fell for the lies the Wolf election campaign put out. One was that Tom Corbett drastically reduced the state's school budget, which was a lie. Corbett's Democrat predecessor (Rendell) had the advantage of getting federal stimulus money for education. Corbett's school budget actually increased the state funding for education over Rendell's state funding for education.
However, most of us outside of the Philly area are not surprised at Wolf's proposals. Fortunately, PA with its Republican-controlled legislature is unlikely to rubber-stamp Wolf's proposals IMHO.

I hope you're right about the legislature. But I get the feeling we'll be looking at partial state government shutdowns around July 1 again.
The thing that is most baffling is how could anyone not know he'd try to raise taxes? You know, other than because Gov Corbett did nothing to try to campaign.

Bill Clinton had to raise taxes to get the country out of the financial mess Ronald Reagan and George H W Bush had left it in... and as a result, he produced the first balanced budget since the one Jimmy Carter proposed in 1980... and the one that Richard Nixon actually had in 1969...
Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do in order to overcome the damage done by those who came before you...

If you'll read the article, the purpose of these tax hikes is more spending and redistribution. Pennsylvania does not have a budget gap to fill.

By the number of voters, yes, but fortunately those metropolitan areas don't control the legislature.

Did you, perhaps, mean Ronald Reag an? I do remember that guy now... By stating Reagen I thought I'd throw A.D. a bone... Give him something he could really get his teeth into... And did you notice that A.D. refers to the EITC as the ETIC?

I do remember that guy now... I thought I'd throw A.D. a bone... Give him something he could really get his teeth into... Not sure I'd use "bone" and Reagan in the same sentence around A.D. You know how that makes him write absurd statements about how all of our troubles with the Muslim world are rooted in the Gulf of Sidra incident, and how he's a warmonger and all. Saying "Reagan" to A.D. is a little like saying "Mattress" to Mr. Lambert.

And Clinton did it on the backs of the military. Remember the "peace dividend"? Wonder why he had to raise taxes, when he was getting so much back from gutting the military. Again? And he left Bush with a recession to deal with, as well as a war that he was too busy banging interns to bother with.
