Put my tomato seeds in the covered dome and 48 hrs later they are popping up, one is almost an inch high 60 hours old and is going to get moved to a new home.

I got some black tomato seeds for the first time this year... anybody ever tried them?...
I only got 28 seeds... shoulda had 'em planted 3 weeks ago... but I've been busy... I do have collards, Kale, garlic, onions, and cabbages growing in the garden...
(And I mean the tomatoes are actually black... not just the seeds)

Cherokee Purple are some really fine-tasting tomatoes IMHO. I "discovered" them maybe 6 or 7 years ago at Landreth Seed Company.

Nah! Got an ALDI's just up the road. Sounds about right. Wouldn't expect an Englishman to have much to add in a discussion about good food.

While the rest of the world ponders the external question of what came first, the chicken or the egg, how are you making out with the English version of what came first the bad teeth or the bad food?

I don't do much in the way of vegetable gardening, but I was finally able to get working on the perennial beds this week. There are a couple of new hydrangea hybrids I'd like to get.
Anybody need a couple of coneflowers? Those things spread faster than smallpox.

Going to try a few different vegetables this year. Horseradish, Brussel sprouts.

Many years ago we planted a bunch of different things. In our haste, we either didn't label the rows or the storms blew away the labels. One row was growing nicely, so we harvest a few leaves thinking it was collards. They were pretty good. Later on, we discovered our "collards" were actually Brussels sprouts.
The horseradish we'd planted turned out to be really potent. That stuff is great (if one likes horseradish)--horseradish root forever...

I plant a few heirloom tomatoes. They are finicky to some degree. Mister Stripey, Purple Cherokee are a few.

I tried some herlooms a couple of years ago and didn't do so well, small yield and taste was not that great.

I tried some herlooms a couple of years ago and didn't do so well, small yield and taste was not that great. You should've tried heirloom tomatoes, instead... Sometimes that happens. Perhaps not all heirloom seeds are equal. Some of the ones I've tried haven't done to well, either. However Cherokee Purple have never let me down. Also, all my CP plants and seeds came from Landreth's (they sell plants at their sale in mid-May).

I plant my heirloom tomatoes in a separate location from my other tomatoes. It seems to help.

The gardening gurus think it's a good idea to not plant tomatoes year after year in the same location (same for peppers). They claim one shouldn't plant tomatoes in the same location more frequently than once every three years.
