They went 2-5 and displayed some of the worst pitching, worst hitting, and worst fielding I've seen in some time. It's like they've got a collective case of the yips.

They can't pitch, but they make up for it by not fielding and hitting erratically.

It's all about the starting pitching. One good start from each the next time through the rotation will have the optimism flowing once again. So far, only Gonzalez has pitched well in each start. The bullpen has been shaky, but it isn't getting any help from some awful starting pitching.
The defense has been the biggest concern thus far; last season it was consistent from the opening bell, but this year it has been spotty at best. I'm thinking that once players start returning from injuries, the defense will begin to shore up. It's still early, but I think there should be a sense of urgency to right the ship somewhat. Ragged play in the field coupled with mediocre to lousy starting pitching can cause a season to start getting away in a big hurry.

Another awful road trip. Norris started okay but then fell apart today. He's not looking good right now. But what can they do? With Gausman on the DL they'd have to use >shudder< Matusz as a starter. At least Buck left Garcia out there to take his lumps, which helped the bullpen and hopefully was a learning experience for Garcia. Chen's outing was a bright spot. Figures the only game they won was the game I was too busy to watch/listen to.

Last year they got off to a slow start. This year that's rough because they're playing so many games in their division to start the season. Still, if some guys don't start hitting and stop swinging and worm-burners (I'm looking at YOU Chris Davis), the season isn't going to be too enjoyable to watch.
I am mystified by the Yankees' success. That team consists of ex (?) steroid abusers and guys on the cusp of retirement, and yet they are doing well.
Modern baseball reminds me of the free-to-play online gaming model. The free players, no matter how clever or persistent, eventually realize they cannot defeat the paying players, who simply purchase additional advantage whenever they need it. The league is probably okay with this as long as the revenue keeps flowing.
