That's nasty- and a real public health hazard. Sentence seems right to me! They'll only serve half the time if they behave- and its a good warning to other food service workers.

If there truly is any danger of transmitting hepatitis then people with that disease should not be permitted to work in catering establishments.

Problem is, the establishments would be at the mercy of the employees to disclose that information! I don't think people are so inclined to disclose that info.

This conflicts a bit with my libertarian core, but I don't think it's asking much to have food workers undergo periodic medical exams. Expensive? Perhaps, but cheaper than a lawsuit.

Libertarians would execute a person who knew they were sick and didn't disclose, and someone dies from that decision. Personal responsibility , if you are not a fan of the death penalty, then they could work for the rest of their lives paying the families back, hard labor, or if they have skills then a large percentage of their income while paying to be supervised.

Basic safety reg. Libertarian does not mean anarchy. And a check for communicable diseases in order for a food service site to remain open is pretty normal - we call it the Health Department-- just test employees, too. If they don't like it- they can quit. I've worked in prison- hepatitis and TB tests are routine for staff safety, as you can be ill and contagious and not know it. Hepatitis is nasty, nasty stuff, Hep C is not curable and can be lethal as well as long-term debilitating, and is spread easily through saliva as well as blood and the other bodily fluids. #1 health problem in prisons- tattoos and well, dropping the soap, are major ways of spreading.

Would be nice but I don't think we will ever see that happen! I was at Wendy's one day and they guy taking the orders was picking at sores all around his mouth, I couldn't believe he was allowed to be working around the food. Made me wonder what would it take to send an employee home? I left, didn't place my order and went home and sent an email to Wendy's HQ.

My griping to corporate is usually limited to.... don't employee's say "thank you" anymore?

They were actually very apologetic. The had the regional guy from my area call me for further details. Weeks later I received a letter in the mail apologizing for my "less than desirable visit" to Wendy's and they sent 4 coupons for free Frosty's. I never used those!!

I never used those!! lol, I was invited to Popeye's via my phone recorder to enjoy a free meal at the Salisbury store but nawwww, don't need it that bad. I'll buy my own elsewhere. I don't think FF or retail in general has customer service training anymore with few exceptions. Bonfire in OC and Texas Roadhouse to name a couple.

You might or might not catch the virus from consuming the saliva of someone who is infected. Virions are certainly present in blood, but rarely (however, not never) in saliva. Still, it's an ADW beef. Twenty-nine months is probably about right for that.
