ArticleClevenger was hitting well at AAA, and Lavarnway was hitting very poorly here. Clevenger threw out 12/37 attempted steals. That seems low to me, but he's the backup and they desperately need more than two hitters on this club.

Lavarnway was picked up by the Braves, and assigned to their minor leagues.

The entire AL East should be designated for assignment.

The entire AL East should be designated for assignment. The Orioles aren't that far off the pace - because of their division. In the Central they'd be last, seven games off the pace. In the west, in fourth, also seven games off the pace. The oddly hap-free A's spare them a fate as cellar dwellers in both other AL divisions. Until yesterday's error by Young they'd gone eight games without a miscue, but they have disturbingly many. When you can't hit well, and your pitching is mediocre, and your fielding is off, you're going to have very few games with all the ingredients needed to win. You'll have to depend on other teams making mistakes, and that's not the stuff championships are made from. Dumpster Dan looks better than he ought to because the division is so weak.

You'll have to depend on other teams making mistakes, and that's not the stuff championships are made from. Dumpster Dan looks better than he ought to because the division is so weak. Tillman's horrid start is, I think, at least partially due to the Orioles' defensive lapses. He doesn't miss a lot of bats to begin with and therefore needs a solid defense behind him. I saw an article earlier this year which stated if the Orioles defense faltered, so would Tillman.
This could be one of those years where the extra wildcard and a weak AL East could be a curse rather than a benefit for the Orioles. If they're not showing signs of life by July, the should seriously consider selling some of their free-agents-to-be. Davis won't fetch much, but Chen should be high on other teams with lists, and, if he demonstrates he's healthy, Wieters will be in demand as well.
But if the rest of the division continues to slog along in mediocrity, I don't see Duquette going into seller's mode if the team is still within reasonable striking distance. It might be better long-term for the franchise if he were to do so, but the above two factors can delude a front office into thinking the team on the field is better than it actually is.
