Bud Norris was designated for assignment a few days ago. The Orioles were unable to reach a trade agreement. I'm really surprised Duquette couldn't get the Dodgers to part with Kershaw, but that's baseball, I guess. Today they outright released Norris, which makes him a free agent. I predict he will not work again this year, but someone will invite him to spring training. He'll make a team only if he can compete there.

sure glad they resigned him last year. plus young. plus Travis Snider, etc. They wasted at least $20M. It's almost as if DD's head & heart weren't 100% in it this past offseason. But, by golly, he's going to fulfill the terms of his contract if it kills the team!!!

That $20 million could have gone a long way toward retaining either Nelson Cruz or Andrew Miller.

Norris was a bulldog during the pennant race last year. No way this downfall was predictable. Sh** happens to pitchers.

Unfortunate for Norris to have this happen, particularly in a walk year. Being sick during much of spring training didn't help, but I think part of it was mental as well. Norris knew that every bad outing was costing him a small fortune in free agency, and that's got to mess with your head, regardless of who you are. I see Norris as likely accepting a one-year deal somewhere next season, just to re-establish himself, and hopefully, he does well.
Might not be a bad flier for the Orioles. Money is a terrific motivator.

But, by golly, he's going to fulfill the terms of his contract if it kills the team!!! Whatever the reason, Duquette had a rather bad offseason. A number of possibilities come to mind. (1) distracted by a potential Blue Jays job (which will not be offered him this year, I'd bet). (2) didn't want to make the Orioles better if he was going to the Blue Jays - that's a rather unethical approach and I tend to dismiss it, (3) Angelos has, in my view, demonstrated that winning isn't important to him in various ways over the decades, but one of the ways is he won't give his GMs the money they need to succeed in this division, (4) bad luck.
