They won their first ST game today. Weiters pulled in the middle of the game for elbow soreness. X-Rays reveal no damage, and there is no MRI scheduled.

They defeated the Yankees today, and I enjoy that even when it means nothing. Plus, hopefully Sabathia will be a liability and not an asset this year. And if ARoid comes out and has a season like he did last year, and MLB doesn't test him? Then we'll know that MLB is ignoring a juicer because a strong Yankees club is good for business, regardless of fair play. Last year he cheated and got away with it (c'mon... getting *better* at his age after a year off?). Let's see what happens this year.

I'm not able to generate much enthusiasm for the upcoming season. Starting pitching shows every indication it's going to be the same, or worse, than last year. Up & down Davis is due for his down year. I suspect Weiters took their $$ because his elbow wasn't feeling quite right.

I don't expect much from this season. They brought back Davis because Angelos (so it is said) demanded it. Paid him stupid money. Weiters tricked them. Gallardo won't be any better than Chen was, and they didn't upgrade any other slot in the rotation. They're basically depending on luck to succeed, they can't develop pitching talent (it's hard to develop pitchers, but the Orioles are worse than most teams at it). Duquette keeps his job despite clearly not wanting it, possibly because Angelos got a glimpse of how difficult it is to get a GM to work for a club whose owner doesn't care if it wins or not when he had to replace MacPhail.
I'd expect a season in the vicinity of 71-91. If guys overperform they could possibly reach .500. But if they underperform it will be painful to watch.
My faint hope for the Orioles' future is that the Angelos clan has to sell the team for tax reasons, and the next owner is more willing to spend where it counts: to improve the apparently deeply flawed farm system and scouting departments, and to rid the warehouse of the Angelos cronies. Until there's new ownership, this team will disappoint.
