Pundits are bandying about a lot of possibilities: six figures for both team and coach, loss of a draft pick, suspension. I'd guess no one really knows what the league plans to do. The latest I have heard is that it will be monetary. The Ravens don't buy Tomlin's explanation, but also (at least publicly) do not believe he interfered on purpose. The league has to discourage coaches from getting ideas, so my guess is they will levy some kind of unpleasant fine.
As a second exercise, speculate on what will happen to the official who should have and did not throw a flag on the Pittsburgh bench for unsportsmanlike conduct.

It's kind of ironic that Tomlin is the most recent addition to the NFL's competition committee, the one that makes all of the new rules.
There probably will be a hefty fine, but fines accomplish little. Even if the penalty is six figures, Tomlin can well afford it. What I wouldn't be surprised to see is Tomlin being suspended, and perhaps for multiple games. As I said on another thread, the league has to do something. If not, every other coach in a similar situation will be tempted to "lose their placement" on the sideline, something that could seriously compromise player safety.
I've read that the league is also considering discipline against Clete Blakeman, the referee who failed to flag Tomlin during the play, although no specifics were given. I believe Blakeman was also the referee in the New England-Carolina controversy a week earlier when a pass interference flag against the Panthers on the game's last play was picked up.

But It's not unreasonable for him to be see this extreme fine, and he should.

Isn't it a penalty for a non player to be within the 6 foot restraining line? The Jets got nailed for that when we played them several weeks ago.

Since the Jets were penalized just the week before for a lessor offense Tomlin figured he would get away with it. Sure, healthy (to us) fine is coming BUT a draft pick or suspension would get their attention.

Consider the possibility of injury had someone not seen Tomlin in a place he didn't belong and plowed into him. If you're not one of 22 players on the field or an official, you don't belong in the restraining line while the ball is in play. Period.

Guy at work figures he will be fired at the end of the season, for not winning enough games and getting the Steelers into the post-season. This will just be a handy excuse.
(Sorta like the way Napoleon (sp?) got rid of one of his generals because "he was unlucky")
Probably a fine for Tomlin as well though....

No Steelers fan here, but I find it very unlikelly that Tomlin will be canned. Let's see...this would be his first losing season in his 7 years, he has a Lombardi Trophy, a .630 regular season winning percentage and a .625 postseason winning percentage. Not to mention the fact that the Steelers pride themselves on stability above all else. He's going nowhere.

I don't think Tomlin can be blamed for his team growing older and slower with little salary cap room to sign younger talent. Up to this point, I've never had a reason to feel anything but ambivalence towards Mike Tomlin. He's seems to me to be a solid NFL coach and a decent fellow. My concern is that if the NFL doesn't come down hard, a player is going to be unnecessarily injured.

For my money, that tape clarified things. It WAS intentional.
Dig: I suddenly need to move LEFT. I plant my right foot, raise my left, and push off hard with the right. Try it, you will begin to move leftward in a hurry.
You DON'T raise you right foot, move it to your right, then thrust left (like Tomlin did in the above video clip)....not unless you have a reason for doing so. It will cost you time, rob you of power for a leftward move, and slow your leftward progress.
Which is EXACTLY what you would do if you wanted to interfere with a play such as this, but wanted a degree of plausible deniability. It is also an excellent way to injure a player....for the rest of the game, the next few, the remainder of the season....or perhaps his entire career.
It WAS intentional, and he needs a reprimand and a penalty to pay for it.
