For infielder Jemile Weeks and a mope to be named later. It's a fiscal move: they'd need to pay Johnson around $10MM next year, given his second consecutive 50+ save season. In addition, Buck can now cut his Maalox order in half. Weeks will probably keep second warm until Schoop is ready. Brian Roberts, call your office. They resigned Nolan Reimold and Steve Pearce, wasting $2MM of the $10MM they saved cutting Johnson loose. They've tendered offers to arb-eligible players: Hunter, Matusz, Norris, Patton, Weiters and Davis.

I'd rather have Flaherty. This new guy isn't real impressive at first glance

I have mixed emotions about the Johnson trade.
Yeah, he blew saves last year. Too many saves. He still managed 100 plus saves over two seasons.
What's the plan to replace that production?
I'm guessing the trade for Weeks is a strong sign that if Brian Roberts can't be brought back cheap for 2014, he won't be coming back.

Boy I wish there were some athletic genes in my family. I can't believe Nolan can get $1m!
I really hope they do something better with the remaining $8m they have saved.

Jacoby Ellsbury to the Yankees for 7 years and $153 million. Way too much for a guy who has had one truly lights-out year, has already turned 30 and relies primarily on speed. But if any team can afford to absorb multiple bad contracts, it's the Yankees.

You'd think the Yankees would learn from the fact that the ARod, Tex and Sabathia contracts are going to have them paying for poor quality for a few years would teach them a lesson. Apparently not.

The Mariners, who have clearly taken leave of their senses, have reportedly agreed to a 10 year/$240 million deal with Robinson Cano. Why anyone would want to give a 10-year deal to a 31-year-old is beyond me.

LOL you know the superstars a hit a lot of homeruns and bat fourth I think are NOT what make teams win. They are nice to have and the stats look pretty. I think it's all about getting good pitching.

More like Seattle's front office is feeling the heat and desperately wants to come up with a winner before the train hits them.

Two former Orioles have moved on:
Scott Feldman to the Astros for three years and $30 million (yikes!), and Nate McLouth to the Nationals for two years and $10.75 million.

Neither of them was coming back for the money they got elsewhere. If they weren't going to pay Johnson $10MM per year they certainly weren't going to pay Feldman that much. But never fear. They'll restock with some dubious minor league talent and miscellaneous mopes they can get for what Angelos is willing to pay. He seems to want the payroll around $90MM, which I suspect is $30MM less than what it takes to contend. Unless your front office is staffed by geniuses, as the Rays' appears to be.

losing McLouth puts a hole in your lineup and you just lost speed and defense
