Any suggestions? are the free ones as effective as the Anonymizer software?

Ok, thanks. Any suggestions? are the free ones as effective as the Anonymizer software? Thanks I've never paid for a proxy server, so I can't really answer that question, I only use them to get around some pay walls and some foreign sites where content is restricted here. Some free ones are good, some are hit and miss. I guess if I wanted to be 100% anonymous 100% of the time, I'd pony up and subscribe to one.

You're never truly 100% anonymous. Who knows which companies the NSA has tapped into either by force, cooperatively, or stealthily. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that the NSA sets up their own proxy servers as honeypots. Consider everything you ever do on the internet completely public, no matter what. Kind of like appearing naked at the golf course with a television crew approaching.

Good friend of mine in IT keeps one computer completely off line -as in no physical or wi-fi connection of any sort-- for any data he wants to keep private.

You may want to be careful, many forums, etc reject applications run through a proxy..
