The market for closers, which reflects the increased emphasis on bullpens, has seen several bellwether contracts already this offseason. Mark Melancon was the highest-paid closer in baseball after signing with the Giants for four years and $62 million, a distinction which didn't last a week when Chapman signed with the Yankees. I'm just a little curious as to why the Yankees were willing to lay out so much for a closer (other than the fact that they simply can) when their most recent personnel moves suggested they were looking at a rebuilding phase.
Regardless, Zach Britton is likely already counting the days until he is eligible for free agency.

The Orioles should move Britton to a team that's in contention, for prospects. Otherwise they will get nothing when he leaves.

I think Britton and Machado are good through 2018. That is when DD, Buck, and a few other player contracts also end, IIRC.

It's my strong suspicion that Duq will not return. I doubt he wants to, and I'm not sure Angelos wants him to. Buck will be retirement age by then, he might pull the pin as well. He's got to be at least a little frustrated. Machado will probably decamp, and Britton as well. I think that's Jones' last year, he might retire. Add in a farm system that's got little to offer and the future looks rather bleak from here.
