Bummer. We've been blessed in Baltimore with some really great center fielders. Paul was a great one.

It used to be said that Blair owned the center field area of Memorial Stadium and leased it back to the Orioles. I think an argument can be made that no one ever played the position better, and that includes such immortals as Cobb, Speaker, Mays and Snider.

I had the pleasure of growing up watching those great Oriole teams. Paul could flat out go get the ball. I had the pleasure of meeting him when he spoke at our high school. Rest in peace Paul and thanks for so many memories..

I recall watching him play on 33rd St; along with Brooks, Eddie, Boog, Andy and many others.
Those were the days of "The Oriole Way."

there seemed to be an issue between Blair and Angelos I think Blair didn't like the way Angelos was running the Orioles into the ground for years. I can't recall many public appearances of him representing the orioles

A few years ago, I heard that Angelos has to approve every deal that the GM makes, and that if he doesn't like a deal, he sometimes won't disapprove it - he'll just make himself hard to reach until someone else grabs the player. Since he basically did this to force Jon Miller to leave, I could believe it. But I don't remember where I read it or from whom I heard it. (Angelos said essentially that Jon Miller wasn't enough of a homer to work for him. A man who will probably go into the broadcasting wing of the Hall one day, and Angelos felt himself qualified to judge his professional ability.) I don't know whether Angelos is scuttling deals, or whether he hired Duquette because he's a man who doesn't make deals, and in the end it doesn't matter. The upshot is that the team will try to win in '14 without enough pitching, a reliable DH, or guys in the outfield (save Jones) who can be counted on to also deliver with the bat.
If Manny is smart, for the sake of his career he will decamp as soon as his contract is up. He's got no future here. No decent player does.
