So will another team pick him up or does he come back to the Ravens at the league minimum and retire at the end of the season?

So will another team pick him up or does he come back to the Ravens at the league minimum and retire at the end of the season? It looks like the answer to that question is "no."Whatever team does pick up Ed would assume the $411K left on his 2013 contract, per baltimoreravens.com.

Reed certainly didn't help his cause with injuries and largely substandard play. I'm not surprised that Houston released him, critical comments or no. A player nearing the end of his career is of little use to a team that is, for all intents and purposes, just playing out the string.

It seems the Ravens knew what they were doing when they didn't chase after Ed.
Thank you for the great memories, Ed. Please retire with your dignity intact.

I love Ed, I really do, but I don't see us signing him. I figured he would last one more year, but he just didn't look happy playing for the Texans, his heart is in Baltimore, you could see it in his face when they played here.
I miss him, and would love to see him come back to coach.

Reed seems little flakey to be a coach, but you never know. He's got the knowledge, and his heart is definitely in Baltimore. I suspect next season he'll sign and retire as a Raven.

It would be fun to see him coach and have the new players pull some of the stuff he pulled.

He looked done last year. This year he didn't improve. I loved him here at the height of his powers, but everyone gets old, and football players sooner than most. He'll join the HoF in five.

Reed is done and he looks done. I don't know why the Texans picked him up to begin with?

At a guess? Ed Reed has a tremendous football IQ. That never goes away. They bet with an off season to recover that he'd come back strong for them and pick off a few quarterbacks. The problem is that he has what are likely to be permanently debilitating injuries, in the sense that they'll prevent him from playing at a professional level. He really does need to retire. I hope we're not going to find out that he's saved no money, or something. I know Brooks Robinson stayed in the bigs a year longer than he could play, and it was chiefly because he had no money, the result of poor decisions and a swindler.

Ed made over five million dollars for a few games of "light" play.. sounds like a good business move to me.

In his prime one of the best ever but his tackling is basically like bumper cars the last couple of years he would just run into the guy and not wrap them up, plus the defensive system in Texas didn't fit him

Brooks sold tickets, his quickness has never been equaled. Yes, he did. He was and is one of my favorite players of all time. And having met him on a few occasions, I can also say that he is charming and kind of his fans - at least, he was to me. He is a class act in a world where that's sometimes not true. But none of that can stay Father Time's pitiless hand.

Ed will be back in Baltimore (his old team) for the 2nd time this year for two different teams.
Has that ever happened before?

Ed will be back in Baltimore (his old team) for the 2nd time this year for two different teams. Has that ever happened before? I can't imagine that's all that rare for marginal players that get released several times in a season. A future Hall of Famer coming home twice with different teams? That's probably a pretty unique situation, reserved for players that can't take "you're done" for an answer.
